Is my baby's poo normal? (Warning: poo picture)

My DD is 7 weeks old and breastfed. I'm never sure her poo is 'normal'. To me it looks mucusy, though I'm never quite sure what's meant by the term. It's kind of slimy and stringy. It's usually yellow-brown but sometimes has a greenish tinge - the one pictured did in real life, though doesn't show on the picture. She poos a lot - I change her nappy after each feed (8-10 times a day) and there's usually poo there.

She's suffered with lots of gas from birth, which I'm told is not unusual. It is a lot though and disturbs her sleep - she can't really sleep on her back because it seems to aggravate her farts.

She was born slightly preterm at 36+3 so I don't know if all these issues are just her immature gut or if she has some kind of intolerance. I've tried eliminating dairy but it's been nearly 2 weeks now and no real change. I've mentioned it to my GP but I just get told it's all normal and only worry if the poos are red, white or black.

I'd really appreciate any advice!

My Breastfed DS poos were very similar

Mother of five. Looks normal to me.

My dd did a lot of poos like that when she was bf. We were told not to worry, but as a toddler it became obvious she has an intolerance to lactose - she's fine with lactofree milk - so maybe that was the cause as I never avoided dairy/lactose while I bf.

BaggoMcoys · 09/02/2021 19:09

Or maybe it's just normal baby poo and the lactose thing is a coincidence.

Thanks everyone! It's so hard to know what's normal the first time around... Sounds like there's nothing too much to worry about though. I might even have a celebratory glass of milk!

@MissHoney85 it must be so hard with lockdown not to be able to just show a friend and say...”is that ok?”

I haven't read all the posts but my exclusively breastfed baby who gained weight very well also had poos like this. He was also a very heavy spitter. We cut dairy and it didn't seem to do anything, so because he was gaining well and had become no other symptoms (apart from a small patch of excma and terrible sleep) he was deemed a happy spitter and we just got in with it.

18m later, after weaning, began to react really badly to drinking cows milk, and has now been diagnosed with CMPi. We've had to cut dairy completely for him, as him drinking cows milk was the catalyst to him reacting to other types of diary that he'd previously been ok with. His symptoms now are gassiness, bloating, explosive mucousy foul smelling poop, and terrible sleep. All of which goes away when he doesn't have dairy.
