Aibu to say nothing and ignore the accident

My cleaning lady broke an ornament today it was a wedding gift from ten year’s ago from a family member I’ve no idea whether it’s expensive or not it’s obviously got sentimental value but it’s now smashed into two bits possibly it might be able to be glued back together
She apologised and carried on
How would you deal with this
Let it go
Complain
Ask for compensation

I’ve said nothing I do feel upset but accidents happen!
I’ve paid her as normal for today

It happens. That's what household insurance is for.

dottiedaisee · 09/02/2021 18:57

Havnt you ever accidentally broken something? Accidents happen!

Lastbonestanding · 09/02/2021 19:10

Let it go. If a visitor accidentally broke something you wouldn't try to make them feel bad or ask for the money.

wingardium8 · 09/02/2021 19:27

I’d let it go. Claim on your household insurance if it turns out to have been valuable (how would you even know?). Accidents happen.

Such high drama "smashed into two pieces", you mean broken?

When you employed her, you insured she had adequate insurance, obviously! So if it's worth claiming, then claim?

Easy really.

@Malbalsh

this is quite interesting Post thread for me,as i used to do housekeeping professional at a local hotel.

Do you think you are able to fix it this wedding gift then?

Could you find out in any way how much its montery value is then?
and claim from your insurance then?
(I know its obviously sentimental value to yourself and husband its worth a lot.

Accidents happen.

She told you and apologised. That's all you need.

it's no different than if a close member of your family had broken it.

pollylocketpickedapocket · 09/02/2021 19:55

I’ve been a domestic cleaner for 15 years, I have insurance.
I’ve broke so many things over the years, I always tell the client and offer to replace it.
Only one person has ever taken me up on that offer.
Let it go.

I would be privately upset but would say nothing. It was an accident. She apologised. Lesson learnt - put anything very special away.
