AIBU to think your chest shouldn’t hurt after blowing up an inflatable?!

Just blew up an inflatable ball pond for DS. Felt quite lightheaded about half way through and now I’m done my chest hurts, it feels bruised and a bit tight and has made me quite worried.
Has anyone else had this?
It seems a stupid thing to phone the doctor about.

I had a heart scan last year which was all clear so I would think that’s okay... but it’s made me worry about my lung function a bit!

Did you take regular breaks to catch your breath? It sounds normal to me.

Littleegglet · 08/02/2021 14:42

I wasn’t breathing particularly hard and I wasn’t doing it for very long... maybe I was using a stupid technique or something but I thought there was only one way to do it - breathe into it!

I still feel a bit dizzy and sick and my ears feel weird as well. Maybe I’m really bloody unfit!

Depends I guess, how big was this ball pond?

Although you should be taking breaks to catch your breath so it shouldn't matter too much and you shouldn't have that much pain.

Are you overweight or a smoker? Both can impact on lung capacity which could have caused that.

Littleegglet · 08/02/2021 14:48

Not overweight and not a smoker.
About the size of a medium baby paddling pool and the whole thing needed to be inflated, it has a kind of inflatable hooded canopy bit over it as well.

I have hurt my back recently and have tension/stiffness at the top of my back so maybe it’s to do with that somehow

I would be feeling the same if I did that. I recently had to run up and down the stairs a few times and it took me hours to feel normal again. I was feeling very sick, dizzy and out of breath. I don't do any exercise so I blame myself for being unfit!

Lordamighty · 08/02/2021 14:52

I find those things difficult to blow up, they have a valve on them to stop the air escaping, it makes it really hard.

Littleegglet · 08/02/2021 14:52

@WalkingOnStarshine that’s the thing I exercise four times a week at least and although I get out of breath it’s never like that! It’s completely baffled me

OP posts:
Littleegglet · 08/02/2021 14:54

@Lordamighty yes I was struggling. I was trying to just breath into it as you would normally breath and blow it up slowly but I think I was obviously breathing more deeply than usual to get as much air into it as possible

It’s been abandoned now 🙈

It’s just freaked me out a bit as I’ve never experienced anything like that before and twenty or so minutes later I still feel a bit lightheaded and spacey!

Seems normal to me. I was a seasoned long distance runner and would still feel sore blowing up an inflatable.

iklboo · 08/02/2021 18:48

You have muscles between your ribs called intercostals. It's really easy to overwork them (like any muscle really) and it's bloody sore when you do because you can't rest them - you need them to breathe.

Thanks everyone very reassuring!
