To spend £2000+ on an oven?

DP seems to think that a good oven costs £400 or less. Last year he bought a £200 single oven off Amazon for our teeny kitchen in our last house, knowing that we would be moving soon. (ie. Knew it was a cheap buy)

For background: We've just moved into a house (we bought it) with an oil fired aga and some crusty awful 70s oven thing.
Fantastically both have died in the first week meaning we have no heating and no oven.

A new boiler looks like £4500, so DP is feeling very sensitive to spending as we weren't anticipating having to immediately replace these things!

My Mum swears that the best thing to buy is a rangemaster. She recently bought a cheaper range oven and hates it. Rangemaster all the way apparently.

Looks like they range from £1500-£2500.

(we have no gas where we live, so it must be electric only.)

We can afford this, but I don't want to throw money away - what do people think is a reasonable price to pay for a double / range oven?

We could only have electric and went for a 90cm range (so on the smaller side), it was about 2k and don’t regret it at all! It looks amazing, is lovely to use and really is a nice feature in itself within the kitchen and gives it some personality. I only have a pic from before we put the tiles in and was far away so have zoomed in and cropped out the fridge that was in view from the angle.

I can recommend Godin ranges. They are expensive but ours is about 25years old and still works ok.

I would imagine the experience of your Stanley giving up may have put you off the brand but I had a rangemaster in a previous house and loved it, initially went looking for another when redoing our current kitchen. I saw a rangemaster and electric Stanley range side by side in the showroom and the difference in build quality was amazing. The Stanley is miles better and similarly priced. I’m sure it’s difficult to get to see examples if you’re living on an island and with the current restrictions but I’ve had the electric Stanley range for 7 years now and love it. It’s not a range in the way your Stanley or an AGA would be, I think they call them range style cookers so they just cook but look like a range that heats the house

I bought a Rangemaster 110 dual oven dual fuel £1800 5 years ago. It is the only thing I have ever bought without going cheap. SO worth it. Never regretted it. I love it

I bought a reconditioned Aga last year for £4K, it's amazing and heats the whole of the downstairs, you could trade in your old one, they're like vintage cars they don't really lose their value. If I ever move it'll be dismantled and coming with me on a pallet

Give Range Exchange a call and find out what the old one is worth

I have the Rangemaster duel fuel and love it. I have 2 ovens so good for us as DH veggie, so we have a meat oven and a veggie oven. 5 rings including one large one for woks and a side hot plate. Worth the money if you cook a lot, not so if you don't.
