To think it's normal to get tingly arms with indigestion

I know people might jump in here saying "heart attack and A&E NOW" but I'm positive it isn't but I do have health anxiety which really isn't helping. Does anyone else get weird feelings in their arms with indigestion?

Here's why I'm on Mumsnet not dialling 999..

I had this exact same thing a few weeks ago one evening (weird chest feeling, no pain, burping a bit and pins and needles in left arm plus a bit in my right arm and my leg a bit too). I had a long video chat with a doctor the next day who said he wasn't worried and suggested it might be viral.

But it's back. No pain just weird chest feeling, might be palpitations, might be indigestion- I did have a big pie for tea and alcohol. I've had weird tingly arms years ago and nothing came of it. I'm mid 40s not overweight, don't smoke etc. I have low blood pressure and just checked heart rate which is 77.

Have you ever had a panic attack?
My fingers went particularly strange.

Shahlalala · 05/02/2021 23:15

I initially thought I had indigestion and it escalated to an ambulance being called as I was heavily pregnant and didn’t know what a panic attack was really. I has a myriad of issues
I feel in control of them now though.

Shahlalala · 05/02/2021 23:16

Oops keep posting mid post!
My pregnancy had a myriad of issues and my health anxiety manifested as a panic attack eventually, though i’ll admit my DH and I assumed it was a heart attack.

stickysticks · 05/02/2021 23:16

@Shahlalala you may be into something. Not a panic attack but stress levels very high for past few months. It's just weird that it came on at the exact same time as this weird chest/burping feeling.

@stickysticks anxiety does crazy things to me. Very physical as if an illness. Definitely worth discussing with your Dr. Knowing it’s an anxiety things really helps me function. I often get it at calm times.

Thelnebriati · 05/02/2021 23:31

If you get a dry mouth during an anxiety attack you can swallow air, which can make you burp.

But the symptoms for a woman having a heart attack are different from those for a man, so it might be a good idea to look them up and watch out for other symptoms.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 06/02/2021 00:04

Burping and a feeling of pressure can absolutely be a sign of a heart attack. I would strongly - very STRONGLY - recommend that you call 999, as it's better to call and be wrong.

blueberryporridge · 06/02/2021 00:47

Get ourself checked out.

I have to say, however, that I got tingly arms and had pain in chest which turned out to be referred pain from a slight injury previously to my neck and which was sorted out with physio exercises. It comes back from time to time and the exercises sort it out again. Didn’t have indigestion symptoms however. Obviously I have no idea if that’s what you have but if everything else comes back clear might be worth considering.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 06/02/2021 00:55

There is a very good chance its nothing more than a panic/anxiety attack

Indigestion does not cause tingling in your arms

Heart attack does cause tingling in your arms, usual the right one but can differ especially in women

Please don't piss about, call 111 if you aren't certain but seek medical advice

FrankButchersDickieBow · 06/02/2021 01:04

My friend who had covid suffered with this and is still suffering now. Any chance it could be this?

KevinSausage · 06/02/2021 01:20

Women's symptoms can be different

To think it's normal to get tingly arms with indigestion
Feelingconfused2020 · 06/02/2021 01:22

I have a lot of indigestion and have never had arm tingling. I would seek advice.

Hydrate · 06/02/2021 08:27

I have food intolerances and acid reflux. My arms tingle when I am unable to keep fluids down, I think it may be needing hydration, in my case anyways.

Hydrate · 06/02/2021 08:32

Meant to add, I had tingly hands and arms when having anxiety too.

Hydrate · 06/02/2021 08:35

Also from the arthritis in my neck.

daisy46 · 06/02/2021 08:36

sounds like anxiety rather than indigestion. shallow breathing caused by tension/anxious feelings causes an increase in CO2 which can make you feel tingly in arms/face (but it's your body's way of protecting itself. If you didn't get enough oxygen you'd eventually pass out/lie down and your oxygen levels would right themselves automatically).

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 06/02/2021 08:36

I also have reflux that causes osephegael spasms causing pain in my chest neck and arms. I would say its pain though rather than tingling. Could it be reflux?

daisy46 · 06/02/2021 08:38

but I'd expect a fast heart rate with anxiety

Godimabitch · 06/02/2021 08:41

I've never had tingly arms with indigestion or panic attacks.
Tingly arms and chest pain I would definitely think heart issue, even if not a heart attack, I would definitely think the heart is not performing correctly, maybe call 111?

stickysticks · 06/02/2021 08:55

Thanks everyone. Well, I survived the night! I took an aspirin though just in case! My arm is still very tingly and my chest doesn't feel too bad. The same happened last time - I thought I'd sleep it all off but the arm tingling lasted another day.

Weird chest feeling - where is it? Is it pain or an odd sensation? I had very similar symptoms with gallstones when it first started and then got very very sick with an infection and pancreatitis. I think you need to be seen in person to be honest.

stickysticks · 06/02/2021 09:01

@SinkGirl no chest pain at all. Just an odd sensation and the need to burp. It was quite high up on my chest. I'd eaten a heavy dinner which was unusual for me. Had it not been for the same arm tingling I had with the same chest feeling last time I would have barely noticed it

OP posts:
SinkGirl · 06/02/2021 09:32

Could be gallstones - when it started I would describe it more as discomfort than pain, in the middle of my chest and slightly to the right under my right breast. Often after eating, plus the burping, and later vomiting. Could also be your heart or various other things - I wouldn’t ignore this, much safer to be checked out and no doctor would think you’re in the wrong for getting checked out with these symptoms.
