The first thread is now full, and there are still a lot of nuances here that we haven't even touched on.

Breakfast
Lunch
Supper
Dessert

Tea and coffee are drinks

StiggyZardust · 06/02/2021 18:12

Lunch at 1pm
Dinner at 7pm
Tea goes in a cup with milk, unless you're under 10 yrs old.

TheresOnlyOneJackieWeaver · 06/02/2021 18:13

Always called it Tea and always will 🤪

AlwaysLatte · 06/02/2021 18:15

Oh god.

snowone · 06/02/2021 18:20

Breakfast
Dinner
Tea

And you drink a brew!

Supper can just fuck off. Anyone who has 'supper', is a twat. IMHO

We call our ordinary evening meal 'supper' (dinner if people are invited and it's a special meal, still supper if it's an impromptu invitation or we've been somewhere else for the evening first).
But we're not twats. Pretty rude, why would you say that when masses of people call it that?

FraughtwithGin · 06/02/2021 18:38

This thread is exactly why Mumsnet can never be "middle class" ;-)
Currently, if I ate 3 meals per day they would be:
Frühstück
Mittagessen
Abendbrot/Abendessen

However, in the UK:
Breakfast
Lunch
Supper (if family meal), Dinner if guests

Friends define the evening meal as "dinner" if potatoes are involved.

Chunkymenrock · 06/02/2021 18:51

Shame we have to endure yet more bloody idiotic misuse of your/you're/you are, even if it is a joke. Tea is a drink or afternoon tea.

You give the children black tea?? 😯😯😯

😉🤣

@HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst I have never in my life called my tes dinner. Ever. Or my dinner 'lunch' (hate that word). If I was asking anyone out be if friends or a date, I would say we could go somewhere for tea.

HelloThereMeHearties · 07/02/2021 11:58

Evening meal is supper, unless going out. Then it's dinner.

Midday meal is lunch.

'Tea' as a meal doesn't exist. Afternoon tea if going out.

Do you have chips with that? One for each shoulder?
Willyoujustbequiet · 07/02/2021 12:35

Breakfast, lunch, tea, supper

No one I know uses dinner except much older folk who call lunch dinner. Dinner is never the main meal. Tea is.

Snowsnowglorioussnow · 07/02/2021 12:39

I do not use tea to describe dinner.

I've never come across it until I had children and I was surrounded by people giving children tea 🍵. I found it confusing!.. Tea is a drink!! From tea leaves.

I've just about come around to a birthday 🎂 tea but otherwise it just sounds like utter nonsense to me, it's a word with another meaning.
