....I get when when people send you an email with the whole email message in the subject line.

For the 100th time this week my colleague has replied to my (and others) emails with his short message in the subject line. AIBU to feel Hulk grade rage at this?

At first it was irritating as it looked like you were receiving blank emails in reply to yours but the “subject” is different so you’re not sure what it relates to. For someone that receives 100s of emails a day, it can get confusing.

Now though, every time she does it, I want to poke him with a pointy stick.

AIBU to think that it’s:
Rude.
Passive aggressive.
Full of self importance.
Lazy.

I should probably put LIGHTHEARTED which I intended at first but I’m not so sure now.

And yes, before anyone asks, I don’t particularly like the individual, no.

P.S I should mention that there is a smily face on his signature Confused

He maybe thinks it is quicker for everyone.

It is maybe lazy, but I don’t think it is rude, passive aggressive or shows self importance.

It is in our email etiquette policy! But you have to put EOM which means end of message in subject line too- saves the recipient time opening it apparently- but not if you don’t put EOM after your message!

PatButchersRightEarring · 05/02/2021 08:47

That’s nuts @Pollypudding.

Maybe I just long for a time we were all communicating by letter and memo....

And just keeping ahead of the MN pedants (I am one myself after all), the person in question is a HE even though I mixed up the pronouns in my OP. That’s what you get for doing to many things at once.

I do it with my boss if I want a quick response because often he won't open emails until hours after they're sent

WhereamI88 · 05/02/2021 08:58

That would give me the rage. Not even being lighthearted. That's not email etiquette and it would be so unhelpful.
