Lost tampon

Sorry if this is tmi. I'm 39 and this has never happened before. I tried to put a tampon in the other day and it didn't feel comfortable, so removed it and was only spotting so didn't worry. Today I noticed an awful smell even after bathing. I felt a bit bruised down below aswell. I thought I better check and quickly after looking with a mirror and baring down I could see a tampon in there. It's probably been up there 2 or 3 days 😳. Am I at risk of TSS or infection now after removing it?

If you can, sit in the bath (no suds) for a bit to make it come out more easily.

Exactly the same happened to me once - about the same age. No ill effects, but it did prompt me to switch to a moon cup

So not so much lost as found... Grin

I hope you’ll be okay OP. Maybe give it a day to see if smell disappears with some gentle water only washing and then contact GP if still there.

MN at its best. These questions might be difficult to ask in real life

I was really poorly after this happened and had to have antibiotics. You’ll know how well you feel in yourself though.

I've done that and it was a lot longer than 2-3 days before I discovered it due to smell. I did not have the nous to check, however, and was rather embarrassed when I went to the doctor...

I've done it too. No I'll effects - the smell was the lost tampon. Just had a lovely bath after to take advantage of the fanny bucket phenomenon and flush things out!
