Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser

I recently got one of these as a gift for my birthday from DH. Very thoughtful and generous gift but it actually makes awful hot chocolate. Watery and lukewarm. It definitely doesn’t come out as thick and rich as it looks in the pictures (unless I’m doing something wrong).

So, would I be unreasonable to try and return it even though I’ve used it a handful of times?

I love mine, had it since August.

When I go coffee shop, I always ask for my drinks extra hot, so I do heat my valavetiser in microwave for 30 secs when done, but hubby doesn't, unless adding baileys or even better HC version of chocolate cream liquor Grin

Thanks @mimbleandlittlemy

I will give the 85% a try.

I think Options probably has other stuff in it, to make it feel thicker.

Perhaps you could try adding some extra powdered milk, or something else that might thicken it? Look at the Options ingredients and see what's there?

The mixed box is great for trying flavours without committing to a box of 10. 85% was included in the most recent mix I bought, 100% was in the original mix box.

A year ago I emailed Hotel Chocolat to ask if they can sell their sachets individually, even if it was a premium price of £1.50 per sachet, as that would give the chance to try without potentially wasting £13 on a flavour you don't like. I remember they used to do a raspberry and white chocolate that I never tried, I knew I would hate it or love it.

We think the white chocolate and raspberry is better as a cold drink rather than hot. Happy to send you one of our sachets but they have just tipped over the "use by date" (still tastes perfectly okay to me though!)

Inpersuitofhappiness · 11/02/2021 11:38

I agree with PP, the individual sachets always seem better than the tubs. No idea why

I can't see how the velveteen itself is making watery hot chocolate unless you're not putting in enough chocolate or the milk is incredibly watery.

Love the velvetiser, though I tend to get it out more when we have guests than anything

I did put chocolate pieces (small little nibs we were given in a hamper) in my aerocino and can confirm I think it has the same effect. Haven't had a velvetiser tho so can't be sure...

On the back of some of the previous posts, I ordered some hot chocolate from Pendragon. Just tried the Dark Orange. It's nice enough, sweeter than HC and, you can see the sugar granules in the mix. I won't rush to re-order when it runs out, but its nice to try other flavours.
