I think Captain Tom Moore wouldn't want all this fuss now

All the clapping etc etc

He seemed a humble man

I say leave his family to grieve in peace and enough with the fuss.

It’s just once, isn’t it? I think he’d be humbled, like he always was when recognised for his efforts. This time last year none of us had heard of him: what he achieved was remarkable.

Clapping/silence/statues/state funerals you name it there's been a thread or several about it.
Hopefully the fuss will die down.

Sparklingbrook · 03/02/2021 21:20

Oh and street parties now. Confused

TillyTopper · 03/02/2021 21:21

I agree OP. Actually I feel sorry for his family as they are grieving and there is all this fuss. I lost my Dad last month, no way would I want this as I felt terrible and I am sure they feel the same.

I c

I completely agree. We didn't clap.

TheRebelle · 03/02/2021 21:57

He must have completely passed me by, I vaguely remember something about him walking around his garden last year and then all I’ve seen today is people saying they’re heartbroken he’s died and he should have a state funeral etc.

I’m sure he was a lovely bloke but I keep thinking I must’ve missed something?

oldyellerbeller · 03/02/2021 22:04

well presumably you don’t know him personally so who knows

Obbydoo · 03/02/2021 23:04

It is utterly ridiculous how out of hand this is getting. He seemed lovely and I have great respect for him for his contribution to the war. But he didn't raise all that money, the media did, they just happened to use Tom as a tool to get there. Him and his family have capitalised on this and have pursued several opportunities to keep them in the limelight. I think him and his family will love the applause and the clamour for statues, state funerals and naming a whole raft of stuff after him otherwise, why were they still issuing statements and letting him pose for GQ if they didn't want this attention. On the day he died, he knocked the vaccination programme off the headlines. We have vaccinated 10million people with a jab which has been proved to not only protect against serious illness but also limits transmission. Let's build a statue for the people who developed the vaccine, not some bloke who wandered around his garden a couple of times.

I think he would bloody love it. Not because he needed the attention but just because he seemed like a man who enjoyed life, and an occasion, yes he was humble but he got a lot of fun out of it as well.

he bought us together and sadly he died but he death is also bringing us together again.
He is an important reminder of what we can all do, one seemingly powerless old man, made us feel good and like we could do something.
