Hi all, had wisdom teeth problems for years. Having them out at the hospital this year hopefully - at last!!

Posting here for traffic. Is this normal? One of my wisdom teeth (bottom right) is tender and swollen, the tooth isn’t overly painful just tender but my whole mouth hurts somewhat, my head is banging - the headaches have always been the worse part, no painkillers touch them and they have been known to last a week or more before, jaw ache, facial and sinus pain, ear and a niggly sore throat and just generally feeling a bit meh. Not ill just a bit off and annoyed at all. My neck and my shoulder hurt on the same side as the said tooth. My shoulder has been killing me!

I’ve been dealing with these symptoms about 3-4 times a year for a few years so I can’t believe I’m only just asking. Seems worse as the kids are off school which in turn is making my head worse 😭

Any advice? I’ve bought a heat pack but is ice better?

Painkillers? Normal ones don’t take the headache away at all! Maybe just take the edge off!!

I guess I’ll just have to wait to get them out. It’s only really the one tooth that causes problem. Would you just go ahead and have them all out or just the bothersome one?

Sorry it’s not an aibu. Posting here for traffic.

I have corsodyl but I cannot stand the stuff 🤢

It just seems a lot of symptoms for one tooth. Can’t help think I have something deeper going on to do with my jaw etc. My jaw is hurting so much!

Hi dentist here!
I think a lot of this sounds more like a tooth grinding or clenching habit, usually connected with stress. Would recommend ibuprofen (if not allergic ) and to continue with heat/ice packs. Possibly not the sore throat, though are you maybe just generally a bit run down?

My throat hurts when my teeth grinding is bad. I get all your symptoms OP. You could try a mouth guard.

Obviously don't know as much as @MrsMcKay1987 but can offer a little personal experience. All 4 of my wisdom teeth started pushing through at once and all of the buggers went sideways, putting pressure on my other teeth (apparently I have a small mouth - DH doesn't believe a word of this Grin ). I didn't get any toothache or mouth pain, but did go back and forth to the GP for jaw, neck and shoulder pain, and migraine for ages. Eventually had a routine dental check up and my lovely dentist put 2 and 2 together from a casual conversation about how we both were and took some x-rays.

I had the lot out under a general anaesthetic (purely because of the awkward positioning of them and the faff needed to get at them properly) - I don't know if I'd do the same right now with covid around but honestly the rinsing with salt water, soreness and having to be careful what I ate for a few days afterwards were nothing compared with all of the hassle they'd been causing me before.

I would also suggest you're clenching and grinding OP, your dentist may be able to confirm this for you at a checkup as it can show on the teeth over time.

Re:the wisdom issue specifically some of that sounds a lot like my lower wisdom teeth which were partially erupted and getting continually inflamed/infected. I had them out but I'd get a water flosser and ensure the area is clean with no debris, check the tonsil area for tonsil stones which can also cause irritation in the throat. Difflam oral rinse from the pharmacist also helped as I recall.

I wouldn't take ibuprofen long term without speaking with your GP as it can be very damaging to the gastric system but technically it's going to be more helpful than paracetamol if you're experiencing inflammation.

Go on amazon and get some gel packs, keep them in the fridge and use as needed, I find them a cheap lifesaver for sore neck/face/jaw (I have TMD and migraines). I wouldn't use heat personally in this instance but I'm sure everyone is different.

Hope it improves!

Also no expert but have had similar issues both with jaw tension and wisdom teeth.

For me chewing sugar free gum seems to lesson the tension and break the habit. Just a couple of hours for a day or two and it goes.

As with all these things the harder you try to consciously stop it the worse it gets. Hence the gun helping (me anyway!)

I have had a nightmare with mine symptoms you described top and bottom right headache jaw ache severe sinus pain shoulder pain.
I had them out 3 weeks ago it has been a traumatic 3 weeks of pain medication antibiotics left with a perforated sinus it is a tiny hole should heal.
I'm hoping another week to normality.

Look up jaw physio and see if it helps.
