Face theory, The Inkey list, Beauty Pie?

Or the ordinary?

I'm looking to overhaul my whole skincare routine (currently super drug based Grin).
My budget isn't huge which is why I am hoping to go with a more affordable skincare company and I've heard a lot about all of the above.

My aims are wrinkle prevention / anti ageing, evening my skin tone and minimising texture so hoping to start with some retinol, vitamin c and whatever else is recommended.
Also on the lookout for an SPF that sits well under makeup as I'm having a terrible time with finding one.

My current random mixture of products I picked up in the sales really isn't doing the trick.

Could I please get some recommendations for brands and tried and tested products that are worth it?

The ordinary retinoid emulsion, also the rosehip oil work great for me.

Re spf, biore watery essence is always a solid choice!

I love love love face theory, it has made an absolute world of difference to my skin (oily/breakouts rather than what you are looking for though). The appearance and texture is so much smoother and brighter.

tealandteal · 02/02/2021 16:16

Oh and I also have an spf moisturiser from face theory which sits very well under my liquid foundation and mineral powder foundation.

GuyFawkesDay · 02/02/2021 16:17

Facetheory has revolutionised my skin too.

First time I repeat buy multiple products.

I have weird dey but spotty skin because it doesn't shed cells very well. Lots of red scarring.

I use the clarifying cleanser, pore right serum in mornings and the Amil-C whip moisturiser.

Evenings same but the regenecalm serum and add the retin-c oil.

It's faded the redness, and I get far, far fewer spots now.

I like facetheory, not very affordable like the ordinary or the inkey list though. I am also currently using the superdrug range!

Thanks everyone. Face theory is still within my budget as they often do 20-30% off.

One thing about them though, I'm looking at using their 2% retinol regenacalm serum at night 2x a week but all of their moisturisers even the night time ones have vitamin c in them and from what I've gathered you are not supposed to use vitamin c after retinol.
Does anyone know of a good night time moisturiser that doesn't contain vitamin c?

I use this and it's got both in? Why can't you use them together?www.facetheory.com/products/retinol-oil

Cerave is good for face wash. I like la Roche posay spf, the Shaka one. It sits really well under makeup. I’ve got a few beauty pie bits and like their retinol eye cream and anti aging moisturiser as well as some of their cleansers. Their tinted spf is really nice actually as well.

Inkey List vitamin C, retinol, NMF moisturiser and rose hip oil

The Ordinary hyaluronic acid, alpha arbutin and niacinamide

Hadjab · 02/02/2021 20:10

M&S Firmula night cream is great

letsjog · 02/02/2021 20:34

@GuyFawkesDay I read that vitamin c and retinol both need different ph levels to work their best. I'm by no means an expert but I think it was something like that and that they can not work as well if used one after the other.
I thought the general rule was retinol at night and vitamin c in the morning.

Yes about vit c in the morning 👍🏻

ridl14 · 03/02/2021 07:50

Agree with PP - vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night. Follow retinol with a hyaluronic acid serum.

If you want to use any exfoliating products (eg anything with salicylic acid), alternate days with the days you're using retinol.

Love a Cerave hydrating cleanser, I switch it out with a Mamonde one depending how my skin feels.

Etude Sunprise is an extremely light and protective SPF, you can't even tell it's on. Perfect under make up and great for every day use as I never feel reluctant to have that oily sunscreen feel!

The facetheory skin oil is great for make up removal. The rest is nice enough. Great fro plastic free. But the Superdrug glycolic overnight peeel is amazing and the only thing I've ever used where I see results the next day.

I would 100% recommend the ordinary's AHA and BHA peel. It's red, you leave it on for 10 minutes and it stings a bit, but by god, your skin is like an actual babies bum the next day.

I like the ordinary for the cheap retinol products, also the buffet serum is good. I usually mix TO stuff up with more high end products that TO doesn't cut it with (primarily cleansers)

Also, try out some Korean brands. COSRX does some fantastic skin products. Korean skincare is apparently licensed for more ingredients that western skincare (please correct me if I'm wrong!), so you are more likely to find some fantastic buys that do wonders for the skin. There is a reason they all look amazing in Korea.
