To wonder why this documentary was not shown

I found Stacey Dooley’s on the psych ward an excellent documentary. I was to see she had made another one that was meant to be shown yesterday however it wasn’t. I’ve never know this to happen before

I noticed that. It was in the TV guide and I wanted to watch the follow up but it was not on at all

I saw this in the Sunday times culture TV guide, wasn’t it on? Is it on iPlayer?

Ibeliveinyou · 01/02/2021 22:27

No it’s no where to be seen

That’s very strange. Perhaps one of the patients or their representatives put out an objection so they’re having to re-edit it.

Plenty of things don’t get shown as originally scheduled. Most often because they inadvertently touch on something that’s happening in the news that day. Or, as pps have said, it could be to do with permissions from the participants.

I would hedge a bet that someone capacity to consent to be in it has been questioned or there's some legal reason someone can't appear.

I always feel slightly uneasy about documentaries in mental health facilities where people may not be able to fully consent to being filmed.

Ibeliveinyou · 01/02/2021 23:22

Wouldn’t they just be able to edit the person out though?

I suppose they would, but whatever happened clearly happened short notice as it was still in the weekend paper listings. I suppose these things take time and then also the timings of the programme would be off.

I searched on Twitter as I was curious and several posters have asked the BBC why it wasn’t shown and it doesn’t look like they’ve received a response

Psychiatric patients are highly vulnerable and the issue of consent is always there. Don't want to turn it into a modern Bedlam visit.

I hate to say it, but if it was on a psych ward there is also the possibility that one of the patients committed suicide and they need to recut, work out what to do, get new consent etc etc.
