As para suicidal is likely to stop them reaching out. Professionals should take it seriously. I worry everyday day that I’m going to lose my best friend due to professionals lack of care.

@RickJames @ChazsBrilliantAttitude thank you both x
It has been a rollercoaster and I am under crisis services again. One day at a time x

I don't want to "me-rail" this thread though.

OP, MH professionals use terms which might seem a bit blunt to service users and their loved ones. Para-suicidal would mean someone is in distress but is having trouble articulating it... instead of words, it comes out as behaviour. An attempt is not intended to end in death but instead as a way to express distress. MH "dinosaurs" might refer to it as attention seeking... but it is help seeking.... basically someone needs help but is not sure how to express themselves or ask. And there is nothing wrong with that at all. We all need help sometimes.
I know because this was me for years.. 2 rounds of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (I have EUPD so was the best treatment) and I have learned to be more self aware and recognise early warning signs before they get critical and I end up in a cop car/136/A&E.
I hope both you and your friend can see that the language used is not a reflection or minimisation on how they are feeling. Suicidal gestures are still serious and still need treatment to address the cause. No one does it for shits and giggles. Flowers
