Why is this annoying me so much?

Friend has started an online business - I assume it’s selling jewellery but I’ve not joined the group or whatever because the name irritates the fuck out of me.

‘Adele Jones, The Collection’

The collection? God it makes me so angry and I don’t know why!!

She posted on Facebook yesterday saying whether her friends like her stuff or not she would have expected them to support her by liking her page and sharing her posts - I want nothing to do with it! I’m not a jewellery type of person at the best of times and I never joined her perfume venture for the same reason!

Anyone else getting a bit tired of people trying to create new businesses on Facebook (usually a pyramid scheme!)

OP posts:

Gosh, you don't sound like a friend.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 30/01/2021 11:43

@ttigerlilly

This is a bit mean. Doesn't sound like you like her very much
Spoiler alert: we all know that ‘You don’t sound as if you like her very much’ is code for ‘I reckon you’re a total bitch but won’t say it outright’.
StillCoughingandLaughing · 30/01/2021 11:45

@Doingitaloneandproud

What's the harm in liking her Facebook page to support her? Maybe she would just like her friends to support herHmm
Younique sales a bit slow this month hun?
ChancesWhatChances · 30/01/2021 11:48

YANBU, sick to the back teeth of shitty mlm friends too.

MsVestibule · 30/01/2021 11:50

One of my FB/school mum friends started an MLM business. I'm happy to support her, but lordy, the amount she posted on her business page and then shared the same post to her personal page. She's a lovely woman but I had to shush her. Can't you just do the same?

namechangefail2020 · 30/01/2021 11:50

I think you should support her

Cordial11 · 30/01/2021 11:55

It's not JUST a like with MLMs ... next is will be raffles, competitions, watch my live, join my business ,hello did you see my previous message your missing an opportunity here to let me profit from you ?!!

Drives me mad Grin

Minnie16889 · 30/01/2021 12:42

Its annoying. Im fed up of constantly being invited to join theit scentsy, perfume, body shop and now books group.
I decline and within a day or say, im being re added again.

HarrietSchulenberg · 30/01/2021 13:05

I get irritated by the same thing as I feel the person is using me. Luckily my real friends would never do this but I have a few work acquaintances who have done in the past so I just Hide all their posts so I don't see them but they don't it.

mbosnz · 30/01/2021 13:05

I'm an ornery sort of a soul, but the minute someone 'expects' me to do something, that is the last thing I feel like doing, or am likely to do. You can 'ask' me to, and I might do it. But 'expect'? Nope.

How do you feel about the motivational speaker / life coach types? Grin
pheonixrebirth · 30/01/2021 14:24

I tried to be supportive of an old friend with an MLM "business", but she just got to be to much. I did a party for her business, bought a little something that I could actually afford but when she asked me to post a video on fb and I refused she got the huff. Never been quite the same between us since. It's like she's brain washed.

ttigerlilly · 31/01/2021 07:57

@StillCoughingandLaughing I don't think OP sounds like a total bitch, I just don't think it sounds like she likes this "friend" very much as I couldn't imagine writing something like this about my friends. I can imagine her friend would be extremely hurt if she knew.

But thanks for trying to educate me on what "everyone knows", I'll bear it in mind Wink

pictish · 31/01/2021 08:07

Um...the name in itself wouldn’t bother me, even though it’s a stupid name, because they do dream up some bloody awful names for these ‘businesses’.
These businesses themselves are annoying. I decline all invitations and won’t share their pages either. Like you I want nothing to do with it.
I know folks are just trying to boost their income in any way they can, especially now. I don’t hold it against them. But no, I don’t want knock off perfume, cosmetics, skin care, jewellery, Body Shop products or in the case of one fb friend, cardboard roses in a diamanté studded box.
What utter tat.

PandemicPalava · 31/01/2021 08:14

These things annoy me too. Is it MLM or has she made / bought in the jewellery?

I remember when it seemed like every other person in my village was doing Stella and Dot and Younique make up and made up daft names for their 'businesses' like this. All very pushy and I likes the pages but then ignored it or hid it

clpsmum · 31/01/2021 08:15

Why wouldn't you support your friend? You don't like the name she chose so you don't support her. A like and share on Facebook is nothing. I don't have an online business but wouldn't think twice about like and sharing a friends page. I'm glad I don't have friends like you

Tsubasa1 · 31/01/2021 08:17

You sound like a very jealous friend!!

Onlinedilema · 31/01/2021 08:26

I thought you were being unreasonable at first, then I realised I don't like and share any of these requests! I had endless acquaintances trying to get me to buy their cheap fake perfumes. I declined them all, it's not for me.

Sparkletastic · 31/01/2021 08:28

YANBU to totally ignore her MLM venture and attempts at guilt trips.

This ^

I have liked, shared, left nice comments in the name of 'being supportive'. I've certainly never outright replied with 'why the fuck would I give people the impression that I like Poundland face cream pumped into a weeny little jar and given a 600% markup?'. All I have ever had in response in more spamming to like pages and posts, and then the messenger pestering begins.

'Hi hun, gr8 news! I'm offering you an exclusive discount on monkey gland serum becos you're such a good friend ❤'

'Hi hun, ever think about doing something really worthwhile with your time? How about becoming a Monkey Glands Saved My Face From Rotting executive? In as little as 47 years you too could be treating yourself to a whole packet of smarties EVERY WEEK with your profits!'

evouk · 31/01/2021 08:36

A friend of mine started a business in the last year and all of the reviews on Google are fake and giving it 5/5 rating etc

Some are fake accounts and others are friends, girlfriend etc. If they'd used the service it would be different but I find it very misleading

missrm · 31/01/2021 08:40

I have a friend that does the candle one. Stupid me, bought once - to show support. Constant barrage of messages now about order deadlines etc. Fuuckk offffffff.

EggscellentEggplant · 31/01/2021 08:51

God I would just support my friend in their venture. I have at least 3 friends that come to mind with businesses on facebook, I follow all of them and like the occasional post etc. Its not hard!

Cowgran · 31/01/2021 09:10

YANBU. It's a stupid name given she hasn't designed a collection herself. And an MLM is not a real business. Its dependant on her guilt
tripping enough friends, family members and acquaintances into buying stuff they don't want.

Blackdog19 · 31/01/2021 09:12

I hate MLM but I thought that was selling a specific product. How does MLM work if you’re selling stuff under your own name as your collection?
