Anyone not working in a customer focused role?

I've always done roles involving some form of customer service. I can't do it anymore, it's soul destroying and I'm ready for a complete change.

I have been looking at vacancies however lots of roles (excluding things which are very degree/qualification specific) seem to involve having to keep some form of client/customer happy and dealing with the fallout. I'm a bit lost and not sure where to start.

Can anyone suggest anything entirely different or has anyone had a complete change that took them out of a customer/client facing role?

I work at a tech company. We employ people with social science / qualitative research skills as user researchers. They send out surveys and conduct interviews with people using our products to understand what they like, don't like, what works, what doesn't, what they think of new features, etc. And then communicate this to others in the business and work with the product teams to improve products/design new ones. It's public facing, so your customer service experience will probably be useful, but it's not your job to keep the public happy. Or anyone internal. Your job is to understand and communicate, and contribute to decision making based on that knowledge.
