To think I should be able to get a good night's sleep...

Without resorting to sleeping tablets? My gp prescribed a few sleeping tablets to help me get into a better sleep routine. I've been taking them for the past week and got a great 7.5 hours every night, lots of energy each day. Last night I didn't have one, went to bed very tired at midnight and tossed and turned all night. Now sat here exhausted with no energy or enthusiasm for anything. Can anyone suggest anything? I've heard of people using "drowsy" piriton, does that work? Please help!

Can you split the tablets? If so, try a few more nights taking just half a pill

I would carry on for another week if you have some left. It takes a while to get into a good routine. Also, don't look at the clock EVER, try camomile tea before bed and get some exercise and fresh air every day. Don't worry about not sleeping either. Also try some breathing and tensing/relaxing exercised through each part of your body. My sleep has been pretty awful lately but these things do help

I take an antihistamine every night to help me sleep.

I'd rather do that than struggle with insomnia and feel like shit all day.
