To expect Dune to allow me to have a refund on shoes Ive never tried on

Ok I have been looking for a pair of shoes from Dune. They have just gone into the sale so I have had to find them in another store in another part of the country.

My local store will order them from the Birmingham store but will only exchange if they dont fit, they will not refund.

I am waiting for a call from head office, and although I realise that normally you would only be allowed to have an exchange on a sale shoe, the fact that they are being bposted and I havent tried them I think I should be offered a refund if they dont fit

I think to be fair they would have to observe the sale exchange rule only on postal sales too.

MascaraOHara · 30/10/2007 13:45

can you not order them from their online store?

Flier · 30/10/2007 13:47

only if there's something wrong with them. It's only a courtesy that stores give refunds to us.

fireflyfairy2 · 30/10/2007 13:51

If you order them online you can return them & get a refund. I did this in the summer when I ordered a pair of sandals that I couldn't walk in!!

MrsArchieTheScaryInventor · 30/10/2007 13:52

Makes good business sense though, especially with mail order goods.

LazyLinePainterJane · 30/10/2007 13:53

So they are ordering them and you are going in to buy them? Or have you already paid for them?

mosschops30 · 30/10/2007 14:00

No they are unavailbale online which is why I spent the best part of an hour phoning round the UK stores.
I have to go to Cardiff store and pay for them, then the Birmingham store post them out to me at a cost of an extra £6.

I know a refund is a courtesy but you would think they'd do it in this case as I wont have tried them on or know what they look like etc, how can you purchase something like that without the back-up of a refund.
The annoying thing is that the store who are sending them said that they would refund but its at the managers discretion, sadly I cant take them back to birmingham

Well, seeing as you are paying for the postage, and speaking as an experienced "retailer" I would say that your store is simply being arsey. They can put the shoes back on sale if they are unworn, it's simply a hassle to deal with a refund.

Is there any way you can try on a similar style in your store first?

dee24 · 30/10/2007 16:45

That's unfair, the store should have got them delivered to your local. Why straight to your door? Then you should be able to go in, try them on and if they don't fit - don't buy, or if they were fine then pay and take them home. I agree it sounds as though they are just being arsy. They can easily put them back up for sale no problem, if you argue hard enough you will get a refund. My friend is really good at arguing with stores that say 'no refund, only exchange' and trust me, if you cause a big scene they will refund .

Hallowedam · 30/10/2007 17:00

that's rubbish, of course you need to try shoes on to be sure that they fit. Idiots. Sale of Goods Act says goods have to be fit for the purpose for which they are sold - think it would be hard for a retailer to argue that you aren't allowed to try shoes on! Give trading standards a call.
