To feel hurt

I ordered a dress in the sales, I have no where to wear it obviously but it was too pretty not to buy!
I had it delivered today and I tried it on, it fits perfectly. It's a black satin off the shoulder fitted dress, it's gorgeous and I loved it as soon as I put it on.
I went downstairs to show husband and considering I've worn nothing but leggings or loungewear for what feels like forever, the first thing that comes to his mind to say to me is "God, are you going to a funeral?" I was actually very upset and I've not wanted to talk to him all evening. Am I overreacting??

Think I might have suggested that it was for his.

Have a hug xx

CrotchBurn · 27/01/2021 21:10

Well it's clearly DESIGNED to hurt you.

In normal circumstances if you were a dressy up person I could just about accept him saying that as a misfired "joke".

But clearly if you've been dressing like it's a snow day for the past few months, and then put on a dress that made you look gorgeous which it sounds like it did, then theres no reason for him to say this except to undermine you for some reason.

Is he twattish in general?

Hankunamatata · 27/01/2021 21:11

Sorry I think that's hilarious Grin

coldnwindy · 27/01/2021 21:13

@Hankunamatata Il give you his number then 🙄

How did he say it? If DH said that I don’t think I’d be hurt but it would depend on his tone, which hasn’t ever been unkind.

coldnwindy · 27/01/2021 21:14

@Yellredder I thought of that as a later thought actually... wouldn't have the same effect hours later 😆

We do joke, but I suppose sometimes jokes don't work in certain situations. I suppose I just wanted a 'You look nice' 🤷‍♀️

Or he saw that OP bought a black dress for no reason and suggested a reason as to why she bought it? TBF, I'm not the sort of person who would buy a dress without a specific place to go.
TillyTopper · 27/01/2021 21:19

Sorry I think you're way over-reacting here. He probably wondered why you'd got all dressed up with no where to go.

SittingAround1 · 27/01/2021 21:21

Sorry but I found his reaction funny. I can see why you're hurt though.

wonderwhatshappening1978 · 27/01/2021 21:23

Insensitive git.

It sound lovely

coldnwindy · 27/01/2021 21:26

Just to clarify.... he knew I'd had a dress delivered as it was a long bag. I had work make up on... I had fluffy socks on and I came down to show him.

OP posts:
CrotchBurn · 27/01/2021 21:28

Yeah it just sounds mean to me. Or at best thoughtless. What did you say or do when he said that?

Oreservoir · 27/01/2021 21:31

Sometimes people say things because they think they’re being witty when they’re actually being dicks.
This was one of those times.

coldnwindy · 27/01/2021 21:32

@CrotchBurn Just a bit put out, went back upstairs to take it off, get deflated and I'm probably going to send it back.

OP posts:
Oreservoir · 27/01/2021 21:34

Don’t send it back.
Wear it to go out with your girlfriends when this awful pandemic is controlled.

CrotchBurn · 27/01/2021 21:35

Well you might be being a bit undervalued by him if this hit a nerve?

Dont send it back I'm sure you looked great

CrotchBurn · 27/01/2021 21:35

Feeling sorry

B33Fr33 · 27/01/2021 21:51

Im not sure i get it as an insult. A funeral requires a smart, elegant look, no?

billy1966 · 27/01/2021 22:56

Not nice, not kind.

Only you know why.

The question is why was his first go to reaction to be so negative?

Mind yourself.

If you loved it, don't send it back.

Leannethom85 · 27/01/2021 23:06

He probably thought what he said was funny, to be fair you said you also had fluffy socks on, so the look of the dress went right over his head.
He'd have soon told u he loved it if you were all dolled up. Every woman has a black dress for going out with so don't send it back

And to get your own back if ever he has a dose of the man flu make sure you wear that dress with sad face on and act up on males pathetic display of illness and poor mes.. See if he laughs then.
