Went in regarding some contractions I've been having, only 2cm dilated, had a sweep and was told to come back in a couple of hours so did so, hadn't changed so was sent home to come back again today (high risk pregnancy due to previous losses so have regular checks!).

My contractions weren't in a regular pattern when I went back today and they didn't think much had changed and didn't want to do another internal exam. Instead she did an external check and pushed around on my tummy to check babies position etc...

Can this sort of examination speed up labour? Literally since the minute I left, my contractions have been getting stronger and more regular, it was like it was almost triggered by her pushing around during the exam but I can only find things about internal checks and sweeps online.

I feel daft going back after I've already been sent home twice but they are getting pretty painful and regular.

Ps. Babys head is fully engaged and I've already had a show earlier today.

You need to ring and check with the midwives at the hospital

Not a midwife but if your contractions are more regular and painful you should definitely call the labour ward

My midwife told me to wait until I couldn’t speak through the contractions before I went in.

Hi,

Yes any pressure can stimulate your uterus and trigger contractions if your body is niggling anyway.
Give the hospital a ring, I always tell women that we’re there as triage for a reason, so we can chat to you on the phone and assess need to come in or not. Also, it’s fine to come and go several times with a first baby, we just don’t want you to have to make loads of trips that can disrupt your oxytocin levels but - never be afraid to ring.

Good luck! Flowers

In the time you posted on this, you could have phoned your actual midwife unit.
