Employing a housekeeper/nanny for when I have to take temporary care of my grandkids.
Aibu to ask the lady I am thinking of taking on, to wear a mask for the full 5 hour shifts?

I'm not sure why some people think that the OP is being unreasonable? I'm a nurse and wear a mask over a 12 hour shift to protect the people that I care for - what's the difference with the nanny?
OP is being unreasonable because it is a bit cheeky to ask somebody else to wear a mask whilst not wearing one herself. And although they didn’t say this in the first post, they ignored several requests for clarification which suggested that was the case, since confirmed.

They're not really working then are they considering the huge number of covid victims who have been infected whilst in hospital. I say that as someone who is also in a profession that requires close contact working and mask wearing, all my colleagues have had covid despite the masks.

Possibly the most ridiculous comment I’ve seen in a while.

I’d personally not want a bemasked person looking after young dc. I think that it’s important that they see facial expressions of people caring for them in an ongoing 1 on 1 role. I think you should just look after them yourself if you’re that concerned.

I agree with all of this.

Why? 1 in 4 people with covid have caught it whilst in hospital. In some regions in the last 6 weeks hospital acquired covid infections have doubled. The figures are freely available online.

Perfectly fine if you were planning to afford her the same courtesy and wear one. But you weren't so, yabu.

HOkieCOkie · 27/01/2021 11:11

I’m a nanny and I wouldn’t be accepting any job if I had to wear a mask all day.

AliceinBunniland · 27/01/2021 11:14

I think this would only be reasonable if you were wearing a mask too.

Brunt0n · 27/01/2021 11:15

YABU for not putting this in the coronavirus topic
