AIBU polyester duvet

Hi!
I was given a polyester duvet for my toddler. Brand new, from John Lewis.
My instinct tells me to keep all synthetic materials as far away from children as possible (microplastic pollution/unknown effets of synthetic fibres on our health...)
Have I been reading the internet too much?
I only buy cotton, wool etc for toddler to wear, so I don’t want to drape her in polyester for 11 hours a day.
But I feel so bad asking for the present to be changed.
AIBU?
Thanks!

I don't know I'm afraid - I would err towards agreeing with you but mainly bumping this so more knowledgeable people might answer you.

GenericUsername101 · 26/01/2021 20:11

I'm with you, I only use cotton bedding and wool duvet inners for me and my kids. If you can swap it definitely do it.

Bagelsandbrie · 26/01/2021 20:21

It would not bother me in the slightest.

I felt like this so bought a £80 bamboo sleeping bag for my baby but it was rubbish and the grobags which are unfortunately polyester are way better so I've ended up using them and the £80 bag sits in the wardrobe 👀

redcandlelight · 26/01/2021 20:41

wouldn't bother me tbh. in fact, all our duvets are hollow fibre synthetic as we all suffer from allergies.
always cotton covers though.

Well, as a child, had I had wool, or feathers, I would have been even wheezier & iller than was. You're being a bit precious. Synthetic materials can be a godsend for people with allergies.

I always have polyester duvets in the house for allergic guests.

lemorella · 26/01/2021 21:19

For my own dc I'm the same, only buy cotton clothing (anything else noticeably irritates dc's eczema).

If you can get your hands on a cotton one/ at least a cotton blend I would.

Godimabitch · 26/01/2021 21:39

Cotton covers and synthetic fibre inners here. I have no idea why anyone would choose to sleep on feathers, they're practically animal pine needles. So itchy. And wool is nearly as bad.

partyatthepalace · 26/01/2021 21:51

Just put a cotton cover on. Be fine Grin

anotherscroller · 26/01/2021 22:03

You are all brilliant. Thank you so much. Yes, i am bring a bit precious.
If I had bought it myself I wouldn’t have chosen it. But now I’ve got it it will be fine.

It wouldn’t have even occurred to me to worry about this.

Pretty certain all of our duvets are synthetic.

Macncheeseballs · 26/01/2021 22:40

The natural ones are often worse for allergies

floss1 · 26/01/2021 22:44

Just keep it as a spare for the inevitable situations that cause the natural one to be in the wash!
And yes, cotton covers.
Good luck!
