Aibu to consider a breast enlargement abroad?

Herefortheadvice86 · 25/01/2021 18:42

I am really depressed about my breast. After my two pregnancies they are deflated marbels in socks. I was only ever a b cup before and my first pregnancy they went up to an ee cup (amazing lol) but then the twins drained me after that one and I can now literally fold them in half. I am still only a b/saggy c cup and even in a bra they don't fill the cup properly. I have hated them for a long time. I won't have the money to get them done over here prices are quite high my sister got hers done abroad and paid about 2/3rds of the price.

So aibu to consider it abroad? Have you had it done? In the UK or abroad? Does anyone have the B lite implants? I have young children and just feel like I'm being unreasonable and selfish to spend so much money on something cosmetic when I could potentially just save that for them. I'm just so down about it.

"Abroad" is a big place - where are you thinking?

LetMeOut2021 · 25/01/2021 18:45

I’ve had mine done in the UK, I’d be reluctant to go abroad in case of complications - maybe not immediately after surgery but in the weeks and months that follow.

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/01/2021 18:51

Yes the issue is the follow up. You'd be far away from aftercare from the surgeon who did the procedure.

Herefortheadvice86 · 25/01/2021 18:52

I don't even know where or what I would be looking at in terms of abroad 😩 and yes the complications is a big thing I'm thinking about but my credit isn't the greatest so doubt I would be able to even get the finance to do it here. I did look at clinical trials but they withdrew the London ones only recruiting in Germany now.

I've met a few people who had them done abroad, that biggest issue is medical records etc were brought back in another language. Where complications arose it was the good.ole NHS expected to pick up the slack and that included deciphering notes

Can I ask where you had them done? Are you happy with them? Or have any regrets?

I think you need to figure out why having perfect breasts is more important than your health and ability to care for your children. Implants don't last forever either, so you'll need another surgery when you're pretty old and high risk. I am not judging you btw, i used to really really want them. Did my research, decided on a clinic, but I needed a few years to save. But then as my life improved considerably, both career and relationship wise, it sort of fell off my radar and there is no way I would do it now. No one can see them other than your other half and even then he probably doesn't care. This is all in your head.

I wouldn't - I suggest you watch Botched on ITV BE (channel 27 on Freeview)

VestaTilley · 25/01/2021 20:07

I wouldn’t.

Go to Rigby and Peller when it reopens and have a proper fitting. Buy some decent bras. Then spend money on therapy to get to the root of your lack of self-esteem. Your body is perfect. It has nourished children. There’s nothing to fix.

Have the therapy- you’ll feel a lot better and it’ll be far less risky than a dodgy boob job abroad.

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 25/01/2021 20:18

Why dont you save up? If you can pay off a loan you can save and then decide. If it would take ages to pay off, do you really want to get into debt for something that's got risks of complications, that you're going to have to get replaced? Do you really want to go cheap and cheerful with your health?

LetMeOut2021 · 25/01/2021 20:32

I’ll message the surgeon. He specialises in reconstruction surgery as well as cosmetic so he’s all about the natural look. Literally everyone is surprised mine aren’t real!

No regrets. I love them. Only shame is that my implant has dropped from pregnant/breastfeeding and I do have a slight double bubble now. So I will need some revision surgery at some point. You’re told to expect further surgeries when you get them done.

Rtmhwales · 25/01/2021 20:35

I had mine done abroad in Cartagena, Colombia in September 2015. No complaints, no issues with follow up.

I was mid travel on a year long trip so flew in from Nicaragua a few days before and spent ten days in a swanky hotel recovering afterward right next to my doctor's office. Got to see him every day. He was an American doctor married to a Colombian doctor so I had the added benefit of checking he was board certified in the US. Was a lovely experience.

Suzi888 · 25/01/2021 20:47

You need to research it very well, I personally would rather wait and get it done in the U.K. You aren’t being selfish if it makes you unhappy. The only thing I would say is implants don’t last forever, how will you fund a second operation when they need replacing. Presumably you’ll still need to pay for anaesthetic etc? I see b lites are guaranteed, but how do they know they are safe when they are so new. Just be very careful as complications of any cosmetic surgery can be costly and painful.

A friend of mine had them done with Bristol Spire, silicone. She was very happy, but has some capsular contracture so they are very firm but she’s had them over ten years. It may be normal I’m not sure. Good luck and please choose wisely!

“Then spend money on therapy to get to the root of your lack of self-esteem. Your body is perfect. It has nourished children.” HmmConfused Therapy doesn’t solve everything!

I came on to say exactly this. 😂

I was a E cup pre pregnancy and thanks to hormonal changes and family genes I am a G cup now.

I am actually considering reduction and would love a C cup to feel like I am able to buy a normal top.

Spend the money on a decent fitting bra, Rigby and Peller for example. They have lovely styles and fit 1000 better than M&S or John Lewis.

Get decent cut tops to show what you have, be glad you can wear high neck or get a blouse which fits without the buttons straining.

Suzi888 · 25/01/2021 20:51

Have a look at the blite reviews on realself.com OP

OverTheRubicon · 25/01/2021 20:56

If you have bad credit then I think that yes, it's selfish to do this rather than getting into a secure financial place first.

One other thing is that assuming you have at least 3 children (multiple pregnancies plus twins?), the risk of being stuck abroad in the case of complications or with self-care afterwards is higher.

Personally I'd save longer and make sure your finances are steady, then do it in the UK.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 25/01/2021 21:02

I wouldn't, purely because I'd be worried about things like blood screening. Strangely, surgical complications wouldn't enter my mind, because those could happen here, but contaminated blood is still a real issue in some countries and that would frighten me.

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 25/01/2021 21:08

@LetMeOut2021 does your surgeon do reductions too? Would you mind PM'ing me their name so I can research? Flowers

AlexaStop · 25/01/2021 21:09

I feel you - I have two babies under 18 months and yesterday I folded my boob in half when I came out the shower. I'm going to wait a couple of years then probably do something about it.

peak2021 · 25/01/2021 21:27

I knew a woman who did so in Hungary about 20 years ago and had complications. Sad that she felt the need to in my opinion.

Crimblecrumble1990 · 25/01/2021 21:39

Can you not go to the same surgeon as your sister if she was happy with the results and care?

I personally would wait a bit longer until I had saved the money to have them done in the UK. I had mine done privately about 10 years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I asked my GP for a referral to a private clinic for mine.

Frankola · 25/01/2021 22:00

If you want an enlargement go for it 😄

However, if you go abroad to save money then please don't expect the tax payer and NHS to pay for any problems that may arise when you get back to the UK?

Herefortheadvice86 · 26/01/2021 03:59

I understand everyone saying get therapy but I have never been happy with my breast and have had therapy and it has made no difference. Also regards to my credit that was years ago due to a dv relationship I am in very secure employment and have a stable income but unfortunately the damage is done at least for the time being.

I will look to save and have it done over here

My implants have a lifetime guarantee but it’s a farce as most women need revision survey for aesthetics, not because their implants have failed. The modern “gummy bear” implants have a very low failure rate owing to their design.
