Lying in bed, next to DH he's sound asleep, put my phone down and got comfy about to try and fall asleep, close my eyes and I feel a hand on my shoulder. A firm touch, it didn't hurt but Definately felt like a hand! Sat up quick thinking one of the DC had sneaked in, but nope, all the kids are asleep- I checked!! Wtf!! Second thing in the last month that's happened to me and I've never really believed or not believed in this- I'm indifferent! Any rational explanations?? Before I move out! 😂

It sounds like psychosis if you truly do believe an invisible person touched you. Have a read about it, and seek medical help if the experience repeats itself. You'll be ok, just don't ignore it if it happens again as it's not normal.

@Hydrate

I think that might be a slight over reaction. I'm not mentally ill. I don't have psychosis. I have no other symptoms whatsoever. Was very clearly just my mind playing tricks on me because I was half asleep.

Which is more likely, that it was a ghost or a poltergeist, or the actual human being right next to you?

Only if the OPs married to Mr Tickle. Clearly some people need to improve their reading skills.

I think you should speak to your GP because of this

"A couple weeks ago I was standing in my kitchen, had my jacket on and someone/something pulled my hood- hard! I got such a scare, same with tonight! Not sure what's going on"

You were not half asleep then.

If you are having these episodes, your GP may want to make some checks. It could be a number of things, and it won't be MN that can tell you what.

@Lweji
Thanks for the advice. But I do think if I went to my gp with these two things alone I would be laughed out of the surgery and given the current pandemic that's currently happening I don't think the doctors need me wasting their time.
Thank you though I'll keep it in mind

I get this from time to time op.

A hand on my thigh. Definitely the unmistakable weight/feel of a hand.

Only ever occurs when I’m in bed but definitely awake. I just figure it’s a weird brain-fart.

Yeah I think that's the only logical explanation, I've chilled out today and realised it's probably nothing sinister, just with it being so late and me being tired my imagination ran away with me. Still scared me at the time though 😂

I was falling asleep on the couch once and I heard my dad (who I thought was my dad!) come in the house, lock the door and the heard footsteps towards me and felt his presence over me watching me whilst I was resting. Smelt him and felt his breath and everything! I tried to open my eyes as I thought ‘what is he doing?!’ But I was frozen, I couldn’t move at all! I could feel my heart beating well hard in my chest. When I finally snapped out of it no one was there. I shouted him, looked around the house. No one. Called him, no answer.

When I finally settled down on the couch again I heard footsteps outside and I just knew what was going to happen...

He came in, locked the door, footstepped to where I was laid on the couch and leant over me exactly as I had experienced 10 minutes earlier.

So freaky, he had just come home from the pub and didn’t answer the phone as I called when he was approaching the street and would have been home in minutes Confused And he had no idea what I was talking about.

A few months back I woke up in the night , and I had this overwhelming fear that someone or something was behind me in bed . Dh had already gone to work early so I was on my own . I was honestly petrified that I couldn’t even speak . I felt like a growling in my ear but I was so frightened I couldn’t look round . After probably seconds I felt the fear go and I knew nothing was there . I fell back to sleep and when I woke I was like nah . I’m laughing at this now but at the time I was convinced it was real. I told my dd who said it’s sleep paralysis it’s happened to her a few times . Very weird experience .

OP I wouldnt worry to much just yet about phycosis. It's been around ten years since I first noticed being prodded in the back while awake, standing up and talking to my friend. Apart from some stress when my eldest was school refusing I'm quite stable.

I always wonder if it's a brain fart as said above.

I ended up in a sleep clinic because of similar experiences, told it was sleep paralysis on here but guess what, after intensive studies on my brain their conclusion was “no sleep paralysis”
My daughter aged 5 had similar experiences, she winded up in a right old state, we needed intervention, she had a specialist nurse who spent hours with her trying to find a logical explanation. I got a call much later and the lovely nurse said “I can’t believe I’m saying this, I’ve been doing this for over 20 years, in my opinion she did see ghosts”.
Logically, we’re programmed to try and establish a reasonable explanation for these experiences, a lot, if not most are caused by sleep paralysis etc but some aren’t - they really aren’t.

Everything you experience is generated in your brain based on signals coming from your nerves. The brain is perfectly capable of generating the sensation without the stimulus, and often does just for fun.

Sleep paralysis. Nothing woo about it.

Standard sleep paralysis. It's a pain in the arse( and shoulder) I've had it since I was a kid. It's very disconcerting but pretty common. Happens more when you're over tired.

These are just semi dream states.

The brain is a complex thing.

Let us be logical here.

Oh for heavens sake!

It doesn’t have to be sleep paralysis - the brain is endlessly complex and creative. People are imaginative. Children in particular don’t distinguish well between imagination and reality. And semi dream states can feel v real.

Both you and the nurse need to catch yourselves on.

I've sometimes felt a "weight" on the bed, sometimes moving a bit. but probably as heavy as a cat. It doesn't seem sinister and has usually been when I'm drifting off or half asleep, even though I've been fully awake once or twice. I never look to see what it is if it's anything and only feel freaked when I think about it later. I've had the poke thing a few times too, but when I've been in the middle of doing something.
