Getting paranoid

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:08

Probably being a completely paranoid ftm, but my toddler Dd, 2,6 years old has developed a strange cough the last few days, mainly at night. It’s as if it wakes her up and is a bit chokey? She’s not at nursery and obviously hasn’t had contact with anyone else for ages,
Dp and I both have covid back in March and still suffering. Should I be worried? She’s never been ill yet, do you go to the doctors with a cough or wait it out?

If your worried maybe give 111 a call x

Frozenintime · 24/01/2021 21:27

Might be croup? best to ring GP tomorrow for advice

DownWhichOfLate · 24/01/2021 21:27

Got the heating on and the air is very dry? Maybe that’s irritating her throat.

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:30

@DownWhichOfLate We do have the heaters on in the bedroom, but have done since October really?

I would just monitor really if she’s not ill. I’d only contact the GP if was a constant cough causing vomiting etc. Very normal for toddlers to develop coughs, of course can’t be helped feeling worried by anyone coughing right now. You could always have her tested if you feel it’s warranted

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:35

She also had a slight runny nose too but has been extra hyper the last few days and really naughty and isn’t generally, throwing things sometimes and hitting for the first time. That’s in between playing and seeming fine 🤷🏻‍♀️

How’s her speech? Another thing it could be is her back teeth coming through. Is she able to tell you if her mouth hurts? That could cause her to produce more saliva which makes her cough perhaps.

Spongebobsquarefringe · 24/01/2021 21:37

My DD used to only cough at night that’s how her asthma was diagnosed.

Runny nose when laying down cause post nasal drip which also makes you cough and choke, I suffer allergies and sinus problems and wake up choking when I’m having a flare up

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:40

@DownWhichOfLate Ahh, she is teething at the back and seems to have been for a while, has medicine some nights, am hoping is that? She hasn’t coughed before in all her time of teething though

OP posts:
IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:41

@Spongebobsquarefringe It’s mainly at night but has been a couple of times when eating lunch, as if she’s choked on something?
At night it does sound like somethings caused her to cough/to cough up, if that makes sense?

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:42

@Frozenintime Looking at the symptoms of croup, I’m not quite sure if the cough fits it? Isn’t a barking type cough and isn’t all the time 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:44

@Darbs76 Yes, I was quite relaxed about it, as thought was just a general cough in the night couple of instances, but it’s been a few days and tonight I just felt a bit 😬

DownWhichOfLate · 24/01/2021 21:49

I think you can almost certainly rule out Covid as she hasn’t been in contact with anyone! There are loads of reasons for coughing. Keep an eye for another few days it may well resolve itself.

dawnc27 · 24/01/2021 21:57

is there a history of asthma in the family?
my 6 month old nephew has just been diagnosed with it mainly due to night time coughing, and there are a lot of asthmatics on him mums side, mum and nan being quite bad

IwanttobeMrTumble · 24/01/2021 21:57

@DownWhichOfLate I know, but even now I’m thinking of when we went on our walk last weekend in the fields by the house, we ran into our neighbours. We stood away from them as everyone just sort of does now, but she was looking at an ant hole with their 3 year old boy and chatting away. I probably sound hysterical 🙈
Also, because we’ve had it, is she most likely to already anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

@dawnc27 My mum & brother are asthmatic and dp’s sister, I’m really hoping she’s not though
