ITALY - defiance of lockdown restrictions

Esspee · 24/01/2021 13:41

I have been been sent information which I believe to be untrue that 50,000 restaurants in Italy banded together to defy lockdown and opened, no masks, no distancing. The government gave up within 24 hours and has officially removed all restrictions.
This is being used to advocate similar actions in other countries.
I have told the person who sent me this information that I do not believe this as searching on the internet I can find no mention that the Italian government has caved in regarding lockdown.
I have now been told that our news outlets are censoring such information. It’s conspiracy theory to my mind and I want to give them a wake up call.
Please, can any members in Italy or anyone who has genuine knowledge of what is happening there please tell me the truth.

I was told something similar, except that lockdown hasn't been lifted in Italy but police don't have the power to stop the 50,000 rules breakers

emilyfrost · 24/01/2021 14:30

It’s bullshit. Don’t believe everything you read.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2021 14:39

Interesting.
Is their red/orange /yellow the equivalent of our tiers?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/01/2021 14:43

@emilyfrost

It’s bullshit. Don’t believe everything you read.
It's mostly bullshit... but it does show that the UK isn't the only country having issues with lockdowns. Something the doom mongerers, Boris haters and 'I'm Done'ers need to see.

We all need to see the good and the bad reactions so we don't feel so isolated - in our homes or countries!

Pawpatrollers2021 · 24/01/2021 14:45

OP I’m not being mean but you really are thick as F. If you believe this.

Again I’m not being mean but do you have any concept of how many of anything 50,000 is?

The lack of critical thinking is worrying.

luxxlisbon · 24/01/2021 14:46

Sorry this sounds like typical FB nonsense to me.
I never know how people fall for these things, like the internet means you can hear the rumour that Italy ended all restrictions but you don't question why there is no Italian news reporting the lockdown ending?

SoupDragon · 24/01/2021 14:47

I’m not being mean but...

You are. Plus extremely rude.

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2021 14:49

Writing I'm not being mean but doesn't prevent what comes next from being mean if it is.
Eg calling someone "as thick as F"

Pawpatrollers2021 · 24/01/2021 14:49

I know @SoupDragon but come one......🤣🤣🤣🤣

StealthPolarBear · 24/01/2021 14:50

Come one come all let's be mean to op

Fufumuji · 24/01/2021 14:51

Here's a hint...if the only available source for "news" is FB and/or Youtube...it's not true.

Luxplus · 24/01/2021 14:55

Half my family live in Italy. Not true at all. Some restaurants ect have tried and been fined. Mostly ppl moan on social media and appear to want to do some kind of protest but nothing really seems to see life in real life.

Esspee · 24/01/2021 14:56

In my first sentence I said I don’t believe it.

I am looking to find out the truth so that I can refute what I was told based on more than my feelings. I’m not thick, just have no personal knowledge of what is happening in Italy.

I went to have a look, and just found a cat pic Grin

Festa di compleanno del gatto in casa, in 15 contagiati dal coronavirus. Il padrone era positivo

Just goes to show there's no monopoly on idiocy ...

And when a number of daily newsfeeds carry it?

There are at least 3 countries referenced here whose newspapers covered this on Saturday 16th Jan. So...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/01/2021 15:18

DGR how/ where on Earth did you find that? Grin

I wouldn’t completely agree with that at all. There does appear to be quite a lot of news blocked by MSM at the moment. For example there has been many anti lockdown protests in Europe, not reported in our MSM but have all happened. I have seen videos on YouTube about some of them but did ask people that I personally know who live in a couple of the countries if it did actually happen and all confirmed that they did.

Not to say everything on YouTube is true but neither is everything on our own MSM either.

DGRossetti · 24/01/2021 15:28

Just jumped out as I was scrolling a few Italian sites looking for news of a mass rebellion of cinquante mille proportions.

An excellent way to ameliorate the bullshit of the British press is to read other countries news in their own languages (US included).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 24/01/2021 15:37

I may start doing just that Grin

Shaniac · 24/01/2021 15:39

Not sure on Italy but ive heard from my friends in my home country that there is big protests and riots and the news today has confirmed riots in the netherlands resulting in a test center being set on fire. Other countries are not as compliant as people are trying to make out.

Fufumuji · 24/01/2021 15:41

Nonsense. You're just not looking. For example..

For example there has been many anti lockdown protests in Europe, not reported in our MSM but have all happened

I read about them in MSM.

DGRossetti · 24/01/2021 15:53

Anglophone media not reporting on foreign events is usually just chauvinism and laziness, rather than a deep state conspiracy (Hanlons razor).

That's before you factor in the outlets agenda of the day.

Fufumuji · 24/01/2021 16:46

But they do report on them. The laziness is on the part of the readers most of the time.

Sometimesonly · 24/01/2021 18:47

Is their red/orange /yellow the equivalent of our tiers?

Yes -almost everyone is in the middle orange zone at the moment.

Tellmetruth4 · 24/01/2021 19:27

Even if 50k did open, they wouldn’t have found enough customers to make it worthwhile. People can scream about opening everything up as much as they want but at the end of the day if most of their customers still feel unsafe then the restaurants won’t make money anyway.

The only way out of this is if everyone complies with the current restrictions and the vaccine is rolled out.
