To think fuck it with housework

Just now DH is working full time, I’m working what is supposed to be 30 hours a week but ended up having to work 40 hours with work being busy. We are also homeschooling our 5 year old. He demands 100% attention (thankfully my friend takes him a couple of times a week for a few hours)

Came down this morning and just noticed that the house is an absolute shambles. We normally have a cleaner, but they’ve not been for ages because of lockdown.

DH and I spent an hour each cleaning the bathrooms, kitchen, changing bedding, doing washing etc but the bedrooms are still an absolute riot, clothes are still piled up, and the pile of ironing is still growing.

Aibu to think “fuck it” and just go out for a woodland walk anyway, and get delicious cake on the way home to cosy on the sofa with and watch a film? Tell me we’re not the only lazy so and so’s

Enjoy your walk and your cake! I'm a SAHM and even I've stopped bothering - agree with PP it gets so much messier with everyone home all day, and everything takes twice as long with the kids underfoot. As long as we have clean dishes, clothes and toilet, that'll do, anything else is a bonus!

You need time to relax, too, so I'd take the walk. If it's clutter rather than filth, it really doesn't matter in the short term. Maybe, if it's to the point that you can't use your home the way you'd like or struggle to find things, I'd do a quick run over the worst areas. Limit it to whatever you can get done in 15 or 20-minute periods. Better yet, plan to do a little of that every day or two, before you settle in for the evening. But a little clutter isn't the end of the world.

Well... had a lovely walk in the woods. And then a delicious Nutella donut. Mmmmm
