To ask what size M&S knickers I should buy for my elderly Mum? Weighs just seven and a half stone

Yup, that's it ... she's tiny.... Weighs just under seven and a half stone and is 5 foot 7.

Am I looking at a 6 an 8 or a 10? Guessing an 8 but really no idea

And know someone on here will confidently tell me which it is!

A size 6 I would say

Bagelsandbrie · 23/01/2021 17:20

A size 6. That’s the same height and weight as my daughter and that’s the size I buy for her. The sizes come up big.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 23/01/2021 17:24

I bought 8-10 for MIL. She was about 7 stone, but only 4 (yes, 4!) foot 7, so a bit fatter than your Mum.

Lovethewater · 23/01/2021 17:26

My mum became very frail in her latter couple of years and was 7 stone at 5' 4". However I bought size 10/12 full pants as these were easier for her to get on and off and she really didn't like anything tight fitting - she never had problems of them falling down. Although she was slight, she was not the same shape as my daughter who at a similar weight would have worn size 6 quite happily.

AlwaysLatte · 23/01/2021 17:26

My mum has 8-10 there, she's tiny too, about 7.5 stones also.

Hohofortherobbers · 23/01/2021 17:31

I always buy a size larger as they shrink in the wash and I hate tight pants! I'd go for size 8

loveyouradvice · 23/01/2021 17:40

This is GREAT!!!! And so quick!

Huge thanks ... I'm going to go for the 8... I think you're right she wouldn't twant them too tight, and a little loose sounds good.

Older women often have a bit more around the tum even if their limbs are skinny so yes, better to err somewhat on the higher side vs what would fit a young person that weight

peony68 · 23/01/2021 17:51

i'm 9stone and buy a 12 , so as people have suggested 8 or 10 would probably work best .

Looneytune253 · 23/01/2021 18:06

My mil is a bit funny about this. She's always been a size 10-12-14 in her whole adult life but has seriously declined in size since she's become more frail. If we buy her anything less than a 14 she will immediately tell us it won't fit. Realistically she would be wearing a size 8-10 nowadays and she's a similar height but half a stone heavier than your mum. I would probably suggest an 8. Knickers are always nicer a little bit larger tho

Roselilly36 · 23/01/2021 18:10

Depends how your mum, wears her knickers, my elderly MIL is tiny, but she buys 18 size knickers.

LemonadeFromLemons · 23/01/2021 18:31

One size bigger than the trouser size she wears, nice and comfy (assuming they’re full briefs).

AStudyinPink · 23/01/2021 18:53

Can you not ask her? Or, if she isn’t in that frame of mind, look at the labels?

DrManhattan · 23/01/2021 19:11

6 as m&s sizes are huge

C152 · 23/01/2021 19:26

I've found M&S quality to be extremly poor and it's only getting worse. The material is really thin and I've found they get holes within a few months. Sloggi seems to last longer.

Butteredtoast55 · 23/01/2021 19:31

I'd second Sloggi. They're brilliant, and an 8 should fit.

Ileflottante · 23/01/2021 19:45

That’s my weight and nearly my height (5’6”) and since having my baby and having shitty periods from hell, I sort of live in the M&S massive kidney hugging pants. They come up over my belly button. And I wear an 8.

loveyouradvice · 23/01/2021 23:07

Thanks all... I should have said Mum is early stages dementia and in a home... Haven't been able to be in her room or hug her for over 10 months.....Will take a look at Sloggi

Would her carers not be able to confirm her sizes for you?

JohnBarron · 24/01/2021 08:49

I bought size 8 when I weighed that much. I’m a stone heavier now I’ve had kids and buy size 10.
