Credit check?

imabarbiegirl · 22/01/2021 17:24

I have a job interview with a motor insurance company.
My credit isn't the best
I have defaults from 2017
Will these show on credit check?
If they do I might as well not go for interview
I have no CCJ or bankruptcy

They will show. How many are there?

imabarbiegirl · 22/01/2021 17:50

There are 4

I am paying them off and none since or missed payments

Ask them what they are looking for with the credit check. It might just be to confirm you aren’t bankrupt.

KatieGGGG · 22/01/2021 17:53

It’ll depend entirely on their recruitment policy whether it matters or not. I’ve worked at a couple of banks previously and limit for defaults at one was 2 and the other was 5. No harm in interviewing, be honest if they ask about defaults, and best of luck!

londoncrawling · 22/01/2021 17:56

What's classed as a default? It that a missed payment?

imabarbiegirl · 22/01/2021 18:04

When I looked online it's conflicting info
Some people are saying they only see ccj/bankruptcy
Others are saying they see balances /defaults etc
The only reason I have defaults is because the company I worked for went bust and I had no wages in 2017

I don't know, but I hope this works out for you Thanks

19lottie82 · 22/01/2021 20:53

Don’t worry! All a pre employment credit check can show is CCJs and bankruptcy. They won’t see your defaults.

waffles1990 · 22/01/2021 21:28

@19lottie82 I don't suppose whether you will know - would a DRO (debt relief order) show on such a credit check?

imabarbiegirl · 22/01/2021 21:45

@19lottie82 oh phew Thankyou for that

From years recruiting people in Financial Services I feel like I can actually give some useful advice here.

Firstly, will you be a budget holder/responsible for budgets? If the answers no then definitely will be less of an issue.

Regardless, The MOST important thing is to be honest when it comes to Credit Check time. Tell the employer the truth and the reason why for the defaults. You might feel embarrassed but Please just do it! The only time I’ve ever had to withdraw an offer based on credit checks is when either a) that person holds a big company budget b) they have not been totally honest about what we would find on the credit check.

9 times out of 10, if you don’t hold a big work budget and you’re honest 100% about your credit record and what you’re doing to repair it, you will be accepted anyway.

When people lie or omit information it’s an automatic offer withdrawal. Pretty much written into stone with Financial Service orgs. As awkward as it might feel, just tell the truth. No need to get into emotions but just ‘this is what happened, this is what will show on the credit check, this is why, this is the payment plan/mitigation I am doing now’

Good luck @imabarbiegirl

@Whatisthis543 no my role is in a call centre as a customer service advisor for a motor insurance company.
I really hope it doesn't affect my chances

For the record I’ve hired people at manager level with IVAs etc but NEVER if they weren’t honest in the very first instance. Tell the truth and you’ll likely be fine!

imabarbiegirl · 22/01/2021 21:57

@Whatisthis543 I actually have payment plans set up now and these payments have been coming out monthly for over two years..so I would be able to show proof of this also.

Also, a DRO will show on a credit check but above advice applies. Good luck Op

Whatisthis543 · 22/01/2021 22:01

@imabarbiegirl that’s great and well done. Just be 100% honest and transparent and should be absolutely fine. I know I’m becoming a bore but it really is important you tell the truth about all credit issues and this will be looked upon positively 👍 best of luck to you in the new role 😃

Rose789 · 22/01/2021 22:03

I work in a call centre for motor insurance. At recruitment and annually a credit search is done it only looks for ccj’s or bankruptcy. Like pp’s if the role was managing huge budgets then they would look in more depth.
You’ll be fine. Good luck in the interviews
