To feel sad for my son

My son 25 is diagnosed with eupd traits. He’s told his psychiatrist before that this isn’t an actual diagnoses. I would imagine because of the way coding is done and because eupd traits isn’t actually a diagnoses he’s down on his gp records as being diagnosed. Aibu to think he should either be diagnosed with the disorder or the traits thing removed from his record.

sounds like you don't even know what his medical notes say and in any case, it's none of your business

If your son's psychiatrist has said he thinks it is something your son is suffering with what is the reason you want it removed from his notes?

He says he’s got traits that’s not the same as a disorder. My son finds it hard as he doesn’t want it on his records as he strongly believes he doesn’t have it.

Your son says that or the psychiatrist?

Could this not just be one of the “cognitive distortions” that make up the traits of the condition? Won’t the decision be made by a medical professional rather than him choosing himself?

I agree, he is 25 so he is an adult not a child. He needs to deal with his GP. He is entitled to privacy regarding his medical records.

The psychiatrist says he has traits not the full disorder. So it’s listed as a diagnosed condition but technically you have to have five traits to be diagnosed with the disorder. It’s on his gp records that he’s been diagnosed with the full disorder.

So he is diagnosed with the disorder then?

I’d get this moved to mental health, @Covidisloation, or else you’ll get people commenting who know nothing about BPDs and the issues around a diagnosis.
