That sertraline makes me realise how mental I've been for the last decade (at least)

Honestly never felt better, well maybe pre-18 years old.

Amazing stuff and I don't feel like I'm 'on' something.

Hi OP and everyone on this thread who is taking Sertraline- I was just wondering whether you have tried other SSRIs and why you chose Sertraline? (or did the GP/Psychiatrist choose it for you?).

I'm just thinking through possible SSRI options so would appreciate any help!

AnotherEmma · 04/02/2021 23:14

I chose Sertraline because it's the safest one to take when breastfeeding (GP suggested it and I'd already done my research).

Years ago I took citalopram and had several failed attempts to come off it, when I felt awful, and when I eventually did manage I did it ridiculously gradually.

I may have spoken too soon in thanking the OP, took my first pill this morning and can't sleep (despite being exhausted), brain won't switch off! So frustrating.

I am on day 3 of sertraline for depression. I am feeling really encouraged by this thread. It’s giving me some hope that life will get better.

GigantosaurusRex · 05/02/2021 07:58

I'm on week 4 of sertraline. I took it for a period after having DS when I had PND years ago and had no problems coming off it. With the benefit of hindsight I wish I'd started them sooner. There was some nausea and headaches in the first two weeks but nothing unmanageable, I still have some anxiety but the difference has been huge.

Yogaposer · 06/02/2021 15:47

Day two of starting on a 25mg (half a tablet) dose per day then increasing. I need this to work, I just want to feel normal. Live a normal life, I am so broken.

glassecase · 06/02/2021 18:56

Hope it works for you.

I'm going to ask for an increase in dose on Monday.

Angry feelings are creeping back in, so I want to try a higher dose. General mood is sooo much better overall though

Hope you managed to get some sleep in the end!!

Thanks for explaining why you chose it. I am still not 100% sure whether to go for it (or another SSRI) but I'm very restricted by my MH conditions and it would be great if it worked.

Did you come off Citalopram because of side-effects or because you were feeling better?

AnotherEmma · 06/02/2021 19:18

Lovely

Thanks, I finally managed to get to sleep at 3am 😱 Nightmare as I'm sleep deprived as it is (young baby). I found another thread about sertraline and lots of people said they took half the dose to begin with so I'm trying that to see... but I'm finding the side effects pretty brutal tbh Sad If it's not easing by Monday I'll have to call the GP and ask their advice.

About the citalopram - I started taking it for depression many years ago now. It helped. But I tried to stop too soon and too quickly, felt awful and started taking it again. Was then nervous to try stopping again and for various reasons there just never seemed to be a good moment to try (various stressful life events). I think I had one more failed attempt. When I eventually stopped for good, I did it oh so gradually over a very long time. I can't remember when it was but I had certainly stopped taking it when I conceived DC1 (4.5 years ago now). I guess that experience made me nervous to try antidepressants again, although I could well have benefited from them, who knows.

Serialise and Citrolopram were no help for me! Paroxetine however makes me an entirely different person. Makes me realise how crap I have felt for a long time x

Just horrible intrusive thoughts about the times I've been wronged in my life. I hate it.

Most of the time I can let it go but the last two years I've been angry a lot of the time.

Definitely getting better with the sertraline
