LittleRa · 22/01/2021 16:30

Are you pregnant?

glassecase · 22/01/2021 16:30

Unfortunately, not

I eat a lot and try not to think about it.

Saz12 · 22/01/2021 16:33

Every day for a couple weeks - no problem. Every day for years - I’d not risk it.

dementedpixie · 22/01/2021 16:34

Are you trying for a baby or are you pregnant?
If not, there aren't limits on tuna

True. I'm really into tuna at lunch with half a pack of Tilda lime coriander rice. Delicious

Trying.

Every day for a prolonged period is not a good idea. Do you like any other fish or prawns that you could mix it with to wean yourself off?

zzizzer · 22/01/2021 16:35

I googled this a while back and settled on three times a week myself because of the mercury risks. I'd eat it every day if I could though.

flossletsfloss · 22/01/2021 16:36

I wouldn't eat it every day, especially if you are trying to get pregnant.

dementedpixie · 22/01/2021 16:38

Depends how.much you're eating then:

Tuna:

if you are trying for a baby or are pregnant, you should have no more than 4 cans of tuna a week or no more than 2 tuna steaks a week. This is because tuna contains higher levels of mercury than other fish. If you are breastfeeding, there is no limit on how much tuna you can eat.

These figures are based on a medium-sized can of tuna with a drained weight of around 140g per can and a 140g cooked steak.

Remember, tuna doesn't count as oily fish. So if you've had a portion of tuna during the week, you can still have up to 2 portions (women) or 4 portions (men) of oily fish.

dementedpixie · 22/01/2021 16:39

4 cans is quite a lot. How much do you eat at a time?

Not really... I don't eat meat because I don't like it. Tuna is just delicious! I have got fake bacon that I could have every other day instead

Which sounds ok judging by this?

I do like salmon, but it's not very easily to cook salmon for lunch everyday for me.

I've never tried salmon in a can... what's it like?

At my advanced age maybe it would be OK. But if you’re TTC then not a good idea. I went through a pescatarian stage of eating tinned tuna as my only protein and it made me feel quite unwell.

Have you tried trout or salmon pate instead? DD and I are obsessed with it.

And are your iron levels OK?

Quartz2208 · 22/01/2021 16:55

RObbie Williams nearly got mercury poisoning from fish so it is definitely a thing

not sure about the amount but I would say eating it every day probably is too much

Presume iron levels are fine, I've been tested and tested and tested some more (conceived first child very easily but now have to go through ivf for some reason).

I'll drop it down. Shame because it's so filling.

I love smoked salmon, would I like the paste? Though I suppose the texture is different to canned tuna!

Judging by the limits given on the nhs site then you are within them. Could you try the odd day with an alternative?

glassecase · 22/01/2021 16:57

Would be simpler if I bloody well like chicken!

Yes will do.

Do you like tinned mackerel? I love the one in olive oil Wink

homeedder1979 · 22/01/2021 17:00

I’d say no it’s not ok due to the high mercury. Especially if you are ttc.

Tinned salmon is so much nicer. And you get the advantage of the extra calcium if you get the stuff with bones in.

Also tinned mackerel is yummy.

zzizzer · 22/01/2021 17:01

The precooked poached salmon from waitrose is delicious IMO
