Unwanted food parcel

Just wondered if anyone could give some advice on what to do.

Last week we found on our doorstep a bag with 2 pieces of clingfilm wrapped cheese, a cucumber, some carrots and some apples.

We thought it looked like a free school meals top up. although we have two children we do not get free meals. We asked the couple of people near us with children but none of them get free school meals.

We did not know what to do and thought that the people dropping if off had probably got the right number but wrong street - think rows of terraced houses that all look the same and have similar names. We did not know what else to do.

But it has now happened again. we simply do not know who to contact to say they are dropping it at the wrong house - obviously there is a family going without.

Any advice?

Can you post it on a local Facebook group

DDiva · 21/01/2021 11:47

Put a note on your door to say you dont believe you should be receiving food parcel.

ZeroFuchsGiven · 21/01/2021 11:47

Why didn't You contact the school when it first happened?

Osquito · 21/01/2021 11:48

Leave a small note taped there explaining it must be the wrong house/no more food bags please?

GreenlandTheMovie · 21/01/2021 11:48

Leave a note pinned to your front door for the dropper-off to read?

Basecamp65 · 21/01/2021 11:48

Our children are Home educated - never been to school

Why on earth some people post on here before taking other action is beyond me 🙄...put something on Facebook or if you don't have it contact your local council or put a note on your door it's not hard

Thanks for this - won't bother asking advice again. I have no knowledge of why people post rude comments on Mumsnet without just scrolling by.

Of course I have thought of a note on the door - its bloody obvious but we have no front garden - our door opens straight onto the street and has it has arrived on two different days of the week it might not work.

I just thought someone might know the best people to contact.

As i say - our children have never been to school so i have no knowledge of where these come from.

I would contact your local school. They may be able to shed light on where it has come from and thus trace where it is meant to be going.

FortunesFave · 21/01/2021 12:15

It doesn't matter what day it arrived or arrives. Just tape a note, in plastic to your door and leave it there..."WRONG DOOR FOR FOOD PARCEL...PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE FOOD HERE, THANK YOU"

And if it arrives again, consider a camera. I'd be a bit annoyed to be honest. It's weird. It won't be school...it's probably some local do-gooder being random.

feelingquitehopeful · 21/01/2021 12:16

The other way to look at it might be through the prism of kindness, someone has obviously considered your circumstances (rightly or wrongly) and are looking out for you. I am not sure why this is bad thing. I would be happy to live in a place where others actively care for mine and my children's welfare.

Aalvarino · 21/01/2021 12:17

Contact all local schools serving your area. One email copied multiple times would do the job.

BusterGonad · 21/01/2021 12:19

Leave a note on the door (as above) if you can't do that give it to a neighbour in need.

Dixiechickonhols · 21/01/2021 12:20

I'd put it on facebook group for your area or town with a photo. Saying we have had this dropped off by mistake again does anyone know who is organising this so I can contact them. I don't blame you for wanting to sort there is a family missing out.

Have you ever heard of people gathering opinions and getting advice? And has it been communicated to you (perhaps via Facebook) that there is a pandemic at the moment with a lot of associated restrictions, and many of the ways people would have gathered said opinions and advice are not currently accessible, whereas sites like MN are?
starfishmummy · 21/01/2021 12:21

How strange. Guessing just mistaken identity so I'd go for the note on the door.

Ch3rish · 21/01/2021 12:22

Why would not having a front garden make a difference? Surely you make a sign and leave it on the door

HyacynthBucket · 21/01/2021 12:26

Can you ask around who the agencies are that are providing food parcels locally, and contact them? Should be fairly simple to do.

5zeds · 21/01/2021 12:26

Knock on next door?

Godimabitch · 21/01/2021 12:26

Is there a local area group? Post asking if anyone knows which organisation is delivering the food parcels containing such and such as you're not sure you're meant to be receiving them. Someone should know who's organising it.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 21/01/2021 12:26

I’d contact all the local schools. Are there any roads with similar sounding names near you?

NerrSnerr · 21/01/2021 12:28

Ask on your local Facebook group. Do you know lots of people in the local area? In our area people have been doing hampers for single parents, people out of work etc? Could someone think you need some help?

StacySoloman · 21/01/2021 12:30

You must know what a school is though Confused and know at least the name of your local one?
