I’m staggered by the amount of things that have broken or died on me in the past 12 months
Including and not limited to:
3 apple products smashed
Roof leak
Bath
Toilet
Car
TV
And today electricity shorted and it’s a 50/50 it’s the washing machine OR fridge

Had anyone else had this ? It’s so fucking expensive and It’s almost bloody weekly now

Yep car spectacularly broke last year costing £££. 3 months later someone crashed into the other one . Tv broke December new one just arrived Tuesday and too big for tv cabinet so that’s another thing to buy.
DD phone broke also in December and our boiler keeps tripping the electricity so in the last 2 weeks we have had 9 days without heating and British Gas out twice who now think we need an electrician.
Oh and new microwave last weekend as the old one died

No, just watch battery running out three hours after non-essential shops were closed.

Yep - Garage door broke in the first lockdown, back door lock broke a couple of weeks ago. One of our hobs stopped working a couple of weeks ago. I'm sure there have been a couple of other things, but can't think right now.

The garage door we're opening/closing everyday during lockdown as we're taking the bikes out most days, plus I've got a cross-trainer in there that I'm using daily instead of going to the gym.

We're cooking everyday. In "normal" times, DS is training most evenings, so we only tend to have proper family dinners a couple of times a week.

We're out in the garden far more during lock down as we're all home. So I think these things are breaking more simply down to more/over use.

Washing machine
Car
Internet
Cooker.
Laptop

All in that in that order 😞

My tap drips too and I’ve found a way to stop the noise - an old wooden spatula leaning against the top of the sink jammed upright by leaning the other end in the plug hole. Position directly under the dripping tap. The water drips quietly onto the wood and runs down into the hole. No drip sounds. Aaand relaaaax...Grin[/quote]
Thanks for trying to help!! Much appreciated.
I have a rubber spatula on duty and it does work, except it's the only downstairs tap so I'm using it every frequently and forget to move the tap into the correct place🤦🏻‍♀️

Ah wow
Sorry everyone
It’s clearly a thing
And I forgot my tooth extraction during lockdown 1
That was a terrible dark week of pain like I’ve never known

Re Problems with 30+ year old antique boiler

Yes ! I showed my antique boiler to heating man and he walked away trembling and crossed himself
So yeah send me your plumbers details please !!!!! As even if I have to Fly him from the shetlands it’s still cheaper than new heating !!!

And I’m sorry for the financial strains and burden for everyone

Yes, our boiler in December and we couldn't get anyone in as son self isolating.

It became a two day job and we've got ongoing issues that have required 7 visits to date.

Other expensive things broken/died include

Hob
Car
My beloved cat and cremation costs
Severe tooth pain resulting in private extraction and three dentist visits

Stir

We had to have electrician out twice as part of our ongoing boiler issue!

Reading this has reminded me of other things that have given up the ghost this past year: my sewing machine. Fair enough, it was a small, cheap thing and I broke it myself by running over a pin and getting it jammed in the feed dogs but still, replacing it was an expense we could do without (I was in the middle of repairing the living room curtains and couldn't just leave them half sewn).

My laptop died last year. It has been on its last legs for ages but chose the time when I needed it the most but could afford it the least to actually kick the bucket. We were in the middle of homeschool v1 and 1 chromebook shared between 2 children just wasn't working. I could've bought a cheap one to put us on but since I need one with a decent graphics card and plenty of memory in order to do my photography stuff it would have just been throwing good money after bad.

Dh was made redundant and therefore had to return the car that came with his job. Now we're down to just one between us.

The oven is not igniting itself like it should and the light inside it keeps going out. I'm really hoping that it's just having a blip and isn't on its way out 🤞

We managed without hot water and heat for a week in December when our boiler went.

But no WiFi for 15 days? I'd take being cold and smelly any day over that!!! Shock
