to be fed up of the goady teacher bashing threads

I want to start this by saying that I'm NOT a teacher, but, I have the common sense to see what a nightmare this current situation must be for them

There seems to be several threads everyday either openly bashing teachers or even just being goady and not doing a good job of hiding their contempt for teachers

I actually can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be for them. Supporting the critical worker children in school. Making sure that there is work set for the children at home. Trying to keep children engaged. Chasing up the ones not engaging. And that's just a few that I can think of off the top of my head, so there's probably a lot more besides.

Then you have the people insinuating that the teachers working from home are having an easy time of it. With no thought to the challenges that this must bring for them

Dd is in reception and we've been struggling to get her to engage, she misses her teacher, her friends and the school routine. Her teacher has been nothing but supportive and I appreciate all the work that he's putting in to keep dd motivated and happy

I've seen several posts from teachers who say they're at the end of their tether, on the verge of a breakdown with all of this extra work. I just think people need to think a bit before they stick the boot in to the ones who are working so hard to adapt to this horrific situation and keep our children educated as best they can

im sick of the threads complaining about teacher bashing.

wink1970 · 20/01/2021 10:26

I don't believe people start or contribute to those posts to be goady - I believe they post because they are experiencing a lack of teaching.

Some teachers are doing really well, some are doing nothing. I have 1 grandchild attending daily zoom classes, and 1 who has had nothing except the odd printed worksheet since March.

FFSAllTheGoodOnesArereadyTaken · 20/01/2021 10:26

I agree. Even if they did find it easier (dont think this is the case for the majority of people) then so what, it's not like the pandemic and closure of schools is in any way their fault. Lots of jobs have changed. I find it weird there are more anti teacher posts than anti politician posts given their shite performance in the pandemic, proven corruption in giving all their contracts to their mates, and hypocrisy for brexiteers moving all their companies to the EU.

wink1970 · 20/01/2021 10:27

*since March = obviously when she was in school physically for the short time it was allowed, she was taught.

Pippa234 · 20/01/2021 10:27

I agree OP.

Yes, I’m sure the majority of teachers are doing absolutely loads to ensure our kids are doing as well as possible in the circumstances. I suspect that there are different challenges that teachers are facing depending on the school they are in. There are amazing teachers and there are crap ones, just like in any workplace. Luckily, my daughter has one of the great ones who is doing a fantastic job of keeping the children engaged. I think if we were in a situation where I didn’t feel as though DD was being taught well, I’d be one of those starting a post complaining too.

Oooohbehave · 20/01/2021 10:43

The issue is that the quality of teaching varies between school and even between classes in the same school. My DDs class is much better than DS's, with more live lessons and engagement from the teacher. Also I feel that so many teachers were complaining about being at risk when schools were open and now the same people are now complaining how hard it is to do online lessons. IMO everyone, working parents and teachers alike just need to accept it's hard at the moment and just crack on and stop moaning.

YANBU.

AlternativePerspective · 20/01/2021 11:08

Well, I’m sick of teaches keep going on about how they should be prioritised for the vaccine because “won’t someone please think of the children.” Never mind that the children will still catch COVID and take it home to their parents and elderly and vulnerable relatives, just as long as teachers get the vaccine ahead of anyone else....

pinklemonade84 · 20/01/2021 11:13

@AlternativePerspective I can absolutely get them wanting to be a priority on the vaccine list though. Children are more likely to spread the disease, so to be able to keep teachers protected and schools open in future, it makes absolute sense for them to be a priority

You do understand that just because your child's teacher is great and you appreciate the support he's provided, that doesn't mean all teachers are like that and all families are receiving the same level of support or engagement?

Who are you to dismiss other people's experiences?

pinklemonade84 · 20/01/2021 11:29

I'm not dismissing other people's experiences. Have you seen the people saying how easy teachers supposedly have it because they're not teaching in a classroom? Dds teacher isn't setting as much work as some of her friends' teachers from different schools, and I'd like her to have more. But, I can recognise that it isn't an ideal situation and that he's doing everything he can to support dd as well as being in school with the critical worker children. I just appreciate that it's better provision than what she had from nursery last year, who interacted with all the fee paying parents, but ignored any activities that I did with dd

I agree Op, I think the teachers are doing a fantastic job, my teenagers live lessons over Google Class room are really good. It can't be easy for the teachers and I think they should be cut some slack.

I'm sick and tired of posters saying that schools should just open ASAP and teachers (often no mention of other staff) should just suck it up.

Maybe you should have a go at these posters first.
