To give up weighing myself?

Like a lot of people, I put on a little weight over lockdown. I was the heaviest I've ever been, just within normal BMI. I've never really dieted before but cut out carbs and moved a bit more and upped my veg. Admittedly I had been eating crap and just didn't move Grin

I was delighted when I got on the scales about 6 weeks later and I'd lost exactly a stone.

I was not so delighted when a day later it said I'd put on 4lb.

And another 2lb the next day.

I left weighing myself for a few days as I'd 'put on nearly half a stone'. When I next weighed myself 2-3 days later I'd dropped the 6lb again.

Then dropped another 3lb.

So, in the space of a couple of months, my weight has varied by 1st 3lb! Some is weight, but it's crazy to me that water/hormones/whatever can vary it by what seems to be 3-6lbs.

Luckily weight is not something that upsets me, so it's more a fascination rather than obsession at this point.

I will say I've also been measuring myself, and with all the yo-yoing of 'weight', my bust, waist, arm and hip measurements didn't change at all. Is that more the weigh (sorry, couldn't resist the pun!) to go??

I've also lost four inches off my arse

AIBU to quit weighing myself altogether? I dread to think how upsetting it is for people who are really struggling to lose weight Sad

I only weigh once a week. If you don’t want to weigh, it’s not compulsory. I find it helpful to have an upper limit where I’ll start more exercise and healthy eating but it’s what works for you.

Not unreasonable at all! Honestly I'm equally as baffled by bodies in this way, it's fascinating. I've seen as much as a 5lb difference between one day and the next and I'm always curious as to how!

I always weigh myself first thing in the morning and with no clothes on. This means it doesn't vary too much.

Congrats on your weightloss!

Yanbu, there will be small weight variation day to day due to variation in (de) hydratation, liquids salt, menstruation cycles, etc.

What matters is overall fitness, and occasional weighing, but for me, my jeans tell me all I need to know 😅

I haven’t weighed myself for 13 years. It can become obsessive and is not Terri my accurate as you have found out. Far better to have a reliable item of ( not stretchy) clothing as a gauge.

It's weird isn't it? I've also recently started having periods again after being on the depo injection for almost 10 years so the fluctuations could be down to that. I would be so disheartened though and in danger of thinking 'fuck it' if I had happened to weigh myself at the 'wrong' time and shown a weight increase!

I dated a guy once who was doing keto and weighed himself in kg every day and wrote down his exact weight, every single day (so 75.3kg, 73.1kg etc). Seemed crazy to me. If I did that and plugged it into a graph it'd be all over the place! Grin
