Dyspraxia and childs feedback

Hi, so I’m hoping to get some advice to see if I’m being over sensitive. My son is has dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. We are homeschooling at the moment and he keeps receiving feedback on his work such as can you practice writing on the line and can you add more detail to your drawings (work was to do with labelling, labels all done correctly).

I may be being over sensitive but they know he has dyspraxia, he is currently attending weekly ot sessions, doing daily home exercises and is otherwise very able with schoolwork. I just feel he is being kind of penalised for something that he has no control over as his writing isn’t good and he hates drawing as it hurts his hand.

I know teachers are run ragged at the moment so not to slate them at all but if your child has dyspraxia do they often get feedback about presentation?

Thanks

Sorry can’t offer any advice, but just wanted to say I hope the little man is okay. 💐

Maybe this is one of he few benefits of homeschooling, you get to see exactly how the teachers interact with him and can quietly remind them that your little boy has extra challenges, but is trying his best.

Hopefully he is not too down hearted.

Thank you that’s really kind! He is ok but I don’t want it to continue as he struggles with low self esteem anyway. It worries me slightly as he is very new to the school so I’m just trying to get a picture of what it’s like.

Not over sensitive l don’t think. People don’t realise the writing is so hard and is no reflection on the quality of the content. I write as an adult with dyspraxia -my fiancé has it as well.

Bless him. People don’t realise how hard it is. I was trying to explain this recently to someone at work. But like l said to her it’s easy in the workplace as most things can be typed. It’s a bit illogical he has to write as a lot of people barely physically write at work these days

Another thing is to reassure him how all the great doctors in the world have bad hand writing just to give him a boost. Grin

I would say something. I used to get so many comments on my handwriting from teachers (dyspraxia not diagnosed until 21). It really annoyed me as I was trying so hard but didn't understand why I couldn't write nicely. I was put in the bottom set of 4 for literacy hour in year 6 because of my handwriting even though my teacher said I was academically in the top set. My parents complained and got me moved!

My handwriting is much better now I'm an adult, it improved in my teens.

I would remind them of his dyspraxia and explain he's finding the focus on something he can't help de-motivating.

AS some one with all the dys I think it depends how it is said. Can you concentrate on writting on the line. to me is absolutely fins. Saying this is messy do it again is not. Basicaly what imprroves my handwritting is practice. Practice spacing, practice writting on the line getting the write pen. I try to do as much work as I can on computer but basically I still have to write. And yes my hand aches.
