I am Royally Pissed off with my Local Councils intimate infinite Pearls of wisdom when it comes to the issue of availability of Public Conviences (Toilets).!!!
Such as in my local indoor Market toilets the council have put similar CS l murder yellow looong sticker tapes across two of the toilets there, why on earth have they done this,(toilet cubicles are individual enclosed spaces, its not like they are Night club toilets on a girls night out an/girl friends sharing those kinds of toilets for goodness sake !
Another instance the disabled toilets were open before, no more now, shutters are well and truly down !
I know they have always had those 20p council run toilets always open, but its pot luck, hit an miss whether you will have exact right change on yourself to use them,!!

So using these kinds of Public Conviences(Toilets) isn't really such a Convience for the Public is it, its a midnormer(misleading) really!😕

I really think its against human rights, its hardly a Luxery thing to do, wait for is it !

The uk Gov has been encouraging us to support local Business such as cafes/resturants /shops
Yet the Lack of Availability of Public Toilets seems to be weirdly at Odds with the Gov idea of supporting/improving their economy !

I live in wales, I haven't got a clue what the Public Toilets availability is like in the rest of Uk,and in Ireland or in Scotland?

ps Sorry if someone else has put up a post like this before?

ps sorry if I have offended anybody cause of the rather quiky intimate nature of this Subject Post Thread

I am just sort of Curious, what other people poster think of this rather Pressing Topic then?😕

It’s the same in central London and has been since early on and throughout the tiers - every other toilet closed in M&S, train stations, shopping centre etc.
I thought it was to reduce occupancy at any one time ie you can only have x number of people inside a certain sized enclosed space to be COVID compliant. (No idea if they’ve reduced the number of urinals too though)

Shoxfordian · 19/01/2021 14:08

Yeah it’s for reducing occupancy and because of the cleaning needed in between each person using the toilets

You’re meant to be home anyway, use your own loo

Why do toilets need more cleaning now than when there was the risk of a whole A-Z of pathogens that could easily be found in them? Covid is just one among many, not the most fatal and not the most transmissible.

And we're supposed to go out and exercise and keep fit so that our immune systems are strong and we are less likely to develop conditions that make illness such as Covid more likely to hospitalise us, should we catch them. So, for some of us with less-than-perfect bladders, using our own loo isn't an option.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2021 15:43

I wouldn't want to be a cleaner at a public toilet at the moment. Nor be using faciities shared with others.
I can just about cope with using the work ones but not keen.

emmathedilemma · 20/01/2021 15:56

We don't have many public toilets to start with and there's now just a handful open across the city. They don't open until 11am which is too late for many dog walkers / runners / walkers. They also have some cubicles closed off but they aren't cleaning them between every user. I've used them a number of times and they are also staffed and very clean. I wear a mask when I go in and handgel on the way in and out (they have it by the door). Given the choice of staying at home or being able to be out for longer and use a public toilet I'll take the later option!
Saying "you're meant to be at home anyway, use your own loo" is ridiculous, there are people with medical conditions, women with heavy periods and small children who don't always have the luxury of waiting until they get home. Are we meant to stay indoors and never leave home?

melononapear · 20/01/2021 15:58

I agree OP. I know we are supposed to be staying home but sometimes I have to go out for essentials and can't wait a month for a delivery slot. The nearest town with a supermarket, pharmacy etc is 10 miles away and I have a bladder condition that makes me need to go frequently and urgently. Sometimes waiting till I get home is just not an option.

It's incredibly embarrassing for me but I've taken to carrying paper and a designated pee bottle with me at all times just in case. I have a 'can't wait' card but obviously that's no help if there's no one around to ask to use the toilet. It's not something I like to talk about obviously but it's something that has been hugely exacerbated by all the Covid stuff.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2021 16:00

The only choice you have is to go out but bear in mind the public loos might not be open. I don't think ours are (one in the park/one by the 3 shops that are open)

Covid...Stop needing to piss and shit people.

Covid...If you don't have it, you can surely wait to use the NHS people, even if you have cancer.

Covid...this unrealistic demand.

Covid...that unreasonable demand.

Covid...Deny tother essential service.

It's all OK because, you know, COVID.

The reality of what people need can be bent and ignored because, you know, COVID.

My DH's workplace have taped up the drinking water taps, disconnected the drinks machine, removed the water cooler, confiscated all kettles, provide no potable drinking water at all (which is illegal). He and his colleagues are not fucking camels. They still make them all touch the fingerprint recognition login clock though just in case they accidentally end up paying a worker for 30 seconds where they were not working.

My elderly fragile sister in law was found dead at home because the NHS operated on her and abandoned her during the autumn. Zero follow up because of Covid. Nobody gave a shit. She was phoning taxis to get her bread and milk. She died with £3.00 in the bank.

But that's OK, again, because, you know, COVID.

LagneyandCasey · 20/01/2021 16:16

I'm torn on this. Of course we need public toilets but cleaning them at the best of times is grim but a much more grim during a pandemic. I really feel for the cleaners right now.

My local very large shopping centre has toilets with a wide opening access from outside that so those are open, I guess due to the constant flow of fresh air. The inside toilets have the murder tape. However, I've always used the outside ones, even in non pandemic times, as the inside ones are 'landlocked' with no windows at all for light or fresh air. Why on earth are toilets designed like that in massive shopping centres? Surely fresh air is the best way to keep public toilets as fresh as possible.

Ormally · 20/01/2021 16:21

BluegreenDreams, but don't forget:
Covid....Wash your hands, more frequently, for 20 seconds.

It is a no-win situation. I do have sympathy for cleaners who would be put at more risk but I suspect the measure is one to put pressure on those who do have more need of public toilets (categories listed previously) to stay at home, as if there weren't enough dis/incentives.
