I have been overweight/obese my entire adult life. In July 2020 my BMI was 43. I had a gastric band fitted, and I have lost nearly 4 stone. My current BMI is 36. The problem is, I have PCOS, and the scales have now not moved in 8 weeks. I still have more to lose. I eat an absolute maximum of 1300 kcals per day and I have to really push for that amount. I can only eat really small portions. I weigh and measure everything and use mfp. I walk the dog daily ensuring I get 8,000-10,000 steps per day, and I do a class 3x per week.
I have PCOS, are there any supplements that could help? It’s so disheartening! I am losing inches, but I need to get my actual weight down!

Have a look at Martin McDonald - (he’s on Instagram) he’s a nutritionist and has a lot of info about Pcos.

If you are losing inches, are active and eating healthier, you must be feeling great!
Why are you so concerned about your weight when you're doing so well?

NoOneOwnsTheRainbow · 19/01/2021 13:58

I think given you have a medical condition linked to weight gain you should probably talk to your GP and pursue a referral to a dietician.

Mooey89 · 19/01/2021 15:09

@Completelyfrozen because I want to pursue IVF and I have to have a BMI at a certain level to get it 🙈
Think I will make a gp appointment,

What are the calories made up of? too much sugar or carbs can cause a plateau

DownWhichOfLate · 19/01/2021 15:21

It’s not much fun but cut out carbs (bread, cake, pasta, biscuits) and sugar. Pcos makes you much more susceptible to sugar fluctuations. Also dairy. Eat lots of green veg, pineapple (randomly) and drink spearmint tea. Just to start until you get a doctor appt.

*tea study

I suggest you completely cut out processed sugar and refined flour. They can both cause inflammation and PCOS is inflammatory. Inflammation can lead to weight gain and water retention.

Lean protein, pulses, dairy and superfood fruit and veg. If you can't easily make up the calories add a few brazil or walnuts as they are very high calorie but full of nutrients.

AliceAbsolum · 19/01/2021 16:37

You're plataueing. Some of those fat cells are probably filled with water. Give it 2 weeks.

Y67b · 19/01/2021 16:42

Read Hugh fearnley whittingstall's new book.
Basically, no processed food, whole foods, variety, fermented foods-prebiotic and probiotic . High fat, high fibre, low carb, make vegetables your carbs.

Y67b · 19/01/2021 16:43

Calorie counting isn't a good way. Look up available calories. Also it's impossible to tell calories of the actual food you should eat, packet food is easy but you shouldn't be eating packet foods.

Notimeforaname · 19/01/2021 16:48

Yes op..perhaps if you tell us what you already do eat or what you like to eat someone can suggest alternatives.

And well done on your weight loss so far!
