Anyone still breastfeeding after taking the Pfizer vaccine?

Everything I read online indicates that it’s safe to continue, and my matron gave me a ton of information that said that it’s safe to continue. Have just had the vaccine and the doctor told me after that I can no longer breastfeed!?

No idea what to do?! Dd will have an emotional breakdown if I just stop suddenly!

Your doctors needs to be updated about the change in guidance - there’s no plausible biological reason not to breastfeed, it’s not a live vaccine. There are trials ongoing at imperial about the composition of breast milk - I think looking to see if any immunity / benefit is passed to baby.
I’m a GP trainee, had my Pfizer jab 2 weeks ago and didn’t stop breastfeeding, all the doctors I know are very happy to be able to get the jab without stopping feeding or lying to colleagues. Absolutely the best thing to do for Mum and Baby is to get jabbed and keep feeding is the consensus.

I actually think the initial position was really damaging - loads of front line health professionals didn’t have the vaccine because of pregnancy/breastfeeding/trying to conceive. A lot of front line health and social care staff are women of childbearing age and I think it was infantilising and unfair to not give them the option to protect themselves and decide for themselves when the risks of covid are as they are at the moment.

@PeigiSu I agree.

I missed out on the vaccine because of this advice and now have covid. I'm an HCP. When the Pfizer vaccine was rolled out, I wasn't allowed it as I am pregnant.

Then the advice was changed, but there was no more appointments available. So I was waiting for the oxford vaccine to be rolled out at work, I've caught covid. I'm so angry, and scared.

Yes I had the vaccine about a week ago and have continued to breastfeed my one year old- no ill effects whatsoever.

I was reassured by the reading I did and knew that I needed to protect myself - far too many of my colleagues have long COVID and have been so ill.

@PregnantGotCovid I’m so sorry this happened to you! It feels like the default position for so many things is a blanket ‘no’ for pregnancy / breastfeeding, disregarding the actual known and very real risks involved with not treating / protecting us. It frustrates me when this approach is described as ‘risk averse’ because it bloody isn’t!
I’m breastfeeding my 18 month old, will be TTC once my periods come back and was worried that I wouldn’t get the jab due to breastfeeding, then would get pregnant before they changed the guidance, then it would be a more difficult decision to have once pregnant. Luckily I had one dose Pfizer a few weeks ago.
