How do your dress your baby at night and what is the night time temp in their bedroom ?

I use a long sleeved or short sleeved vest. Pyjama bottoms and top. Cotton ones and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag plus socks. Room temp is between 21-23 degrees. I check on DS regularly to see if he's sweating or hot or perhaps cold and it really disrupts my sleep. When looking at the charts for sleeping bags I think he should probably be in a 1 tog at our room temp, but it just seems so thin. What do you think ? What kind of sleeping clothes plus sleeping bag tog do you have your babies in ? He just turned one. We have the heating set on auto and it sort of fluctuates. His bed is also near the window so a bit cooler than the rest of the room. I just worry about him being too hot or too cold constantly at night. It's really getting to me !

My baby has a baby grow and a 2.5 tog bag on house is 18 degrees

CCSS15 · 18/01/2021 19:14

I'm similar with the sleeping bag tog with a 1 year old - the one tog feels too thin so he's in a 2.5. Room temperature is set at 20 but I boost it if the house is feeling cold. He sleeps in a cotton sleep suit which has covered feet - an additional vest would be too much.

If you have any spare money have a look at one of the heating systems where you can set room temperatures - saves a lot of angst and checking. With mine you can look on your phone and turn the radiator on / off as needed

Babybaby432 · 18/01/2021 19:17

Room 18.5 degrees, long sleeved pjs and a duvet.

cerealgamechanger · 18/01/2021 19:22

My first was a terrible sleeper (still is) and I was determined the second would be different if I could help it. DC2 is a Boxing Day baby so I followed all the safe sleeping guidelines as long as I could but I found a vest, baby grow and 2.5 tog sleeping bag just hasn't worked for him this winter (flat is usually 20-20•) so now it's a vest, baby grow AND a buttoned up cardigan AND a sleeping bag. He sleeps much better.

cerealgamechanger · 18/01/2021 19:22

Ps. I probably froze DC1 in hindsight trying to be careful.

CactusPat · 18/01/2021 19:24

Ours varies between 19-20 and DC is in a long sleeved vest and a 2.5T bag. Always seems toasty when waking!

Ohalrightthen · 18/01/2021 19:25

If he's not comfortable, you'll know about it. Checking on him so much that it's disrupting your sleep is really not normal - do you find yourself anxious and obsessing about other things a lot at the moment?

UnbeatenMum · 18/01/2021 19:27

Mine is in a short sleeved vest, pyjamas and a 2.5 tog grobag. His room is currently 19 degrees.

OrangeSlices998 · 18/01/2021 19:27

If the 1 tog feels too thin take the vest off? My daughters room is 16-18 degrees and she has the same layers your 1 year old does. If it’s 21-23 degrees he’s wearing too many layers, overheating isn’t ideal.

purplejungle · 18/01/2021 19:30

8mo in a long sleeved vest and 2.5 tog sleeping bag, or sometimes a 1 tog sleeping bag with a baby grow - room approx 22 degrees.

Anyat212 · 18/01/2021 19:30

2.5 tog is pretty standard OP, I wouldn't worry. Those charts tend to recommend a cooler room / thinner tog just to be extra safe. I used to be the same as you, checking DD and her room temp quite a bit! Im pregnant with DD2 at the moment and I'm glad I won't have to worry about this again.

FWIW, my DD is usually in a 2 or 2.5 tog and our room temp averages at around 19 degrees.

Anyat212 · 18/01/2021 19:31

Sorry meant to add she's usually in a short sleeved vest along with her PJs.

PinkyParrot · 18/01/2021 19:31

We had no heating in baby's bedroom - rented house (many years ago) - these temps sound too hot to me for night time.

Elle8999 · 18/01/2021 19:31

Our nursery temp is between 18-21 overnight and I have our 1 year olds in a short sleeved vest, pj long sleeved top and bottoms and warm socks, plus a 2.5 tog bag. According to the sleeping bag guides, he should be in way less, but he wakes crying if he’s wearing any less as he gets cold! Let you little one be your guide - they will tell you if it’s too hot or too cold!

booandbumpp · 18/01/2021 19:32

My 4 month old is in a babygro and a thin swaddle. Room is 17-19C overnight.
I’ve read that cooler is better than too hot for safety and babies tend to sleep better at around 18C. We’ve had quite a few nights where she’s slept through so I think this is true for us!
If she was too cold I’m sure she’s let us know.

PlantingGreen · 18/01/2021 19:34

My 7 week old has a short sleeved vest, long sleeved baby grow and a 1.5 tog sleeping bag. The room is usually between 18 and 22 degrees.

Aneley · 18/01/2021 19:35

Our 1yo is in sleeveless vest, long sleeved baby-grow/pyjama and 2.5tog bag. Room temp is around 20.

CovidCakeConundrum · 18/01/2021 19:35

Bedroom goes down to 17c, sometimes higher and sometimes lower. Its a flat so depends on whether downstairs pu their heating on, we don't.
1 Yr old sleeps in a sleeveless vest and a babygrow or long sleeve pj's and a 2.5 tog. He normally wakes very toasty, occasionally cold hands but sleeps well.

SunshineLollipopsRainbow · 18/01/2021 19:35

Long sleeved vest, cotton sleepsuit 2.5 tog sleeping bag and cellular blanket; 13 months. Room is about 21 degrees when he goes to bed and would drop to just under 16 in the night if the heating stayed off so we have the heating boost for an hour 2-3am so the room goes to about 18 before then and back to 21 after.

orangejuicer · 18/01/2021 19:35

2.5 tog sleeping bag and pjs. Room is usually between 19 and 20.

20-23 seems warm OP.

Horehound · 18/01/2021 19:36

Vest plus PJs OR a fleecey onesie with no vest.
Blanket
Room is usually 22ish degrees

Mangofandangoo · 18/01/2021 19:37

18 degrees, long sleeved pjs and duvet. She also wears socks because she's constantly kicking the duvet off

Horehound · 18/01/2021 19:38

Don't let people scare you thinking 22degress is too warm. Babies are born in hot countries...Dubai 40deg!

MooseBerry · 18/01/2021 19:39

My baby is coming up to 14 months. He has a long sleeve vest on and a 2.5 tog sleeping bag. His room is around 18 degrees over night. He is always warm enough but every baby is different.

JurassicShay · 18/01/2021 19:42

No idea what the room temp is but we have heating on 20 until now ish it's then off over night. I can't sleep with it on and didn't realise others did!

Dd is in long sleeve vest, baby grow & either 2.5 or 3.5 sleeping bag. As of last night is not a grobag with arms in anymore & her hands were cold but apparently that's fine and not an indication of core body temp.
