Paying your respects by roadside attire.

Hi all, apologies for the wrong section. Posting here for traffic.

In my local area many people are paying respects to those lost by the road side on their last route from their homes etc whilst following social distancing. I assume this is the same everywhere in the country. It really helps it’s generally quiet here and works well and people social distance with no problem.

Anyway. I haven’t been to many funerals let alone on the roadside.

How do you dress? I don’t feel it would be right to wear formal funeral attire as you aren’t actually attending the service? But worry about being too casual?

Have 2 people to say my last goodbyes to on the roadside and don’t know how to dress.

Any advice for someone that just doesn’t have a clue 😭

Apologises for wrong section again.

I don't know the answer. I've done two of these and felt I got it badly wrong both times.

People were in everything from full formal funeral wear, to relevant sports kit and very casual/scruffy.

I went smart casual in dark colours but that seemed too formal for normal daytime (it was summer so maybe that makes a difference) but not enough for a funeral.

Sorry, no help at all!

I agree though, that the families concerned really appreciated the turnout and couldn't care less what they wore.

When I’ve seen them here most people have normal clothes on.

I've always known it to be hats on for women and off for men. My grandparents were very traditional about things like that. Either way, just being there is the main thing. I'd say any clothing that is restrained (or what the deceased or their family have requested) and suitable for the conditions on the day is fine.
