To think it's ridiculous that people are still flocking to 'beauty spots'

Last weekend parking tickets were issued because of all the selfish parking at Dovestones reservoir near Manchester. Lots of pavement parking etc.

This weekend the same thing happened again. AIBU to think people should just walk near where they live, and not drive to walk, then park badly because the car parks are full with others doing the same. Yes, I understand the need for exercise, but no-one NEEDS to go on days out.

If you purposely drive some distance to visit a place where there are lots of other people in the middle of the pandemic and you aren't obtaining essential goods or services then it says a lot about you and your view of the world.

It has nothing to do with essential goods or services. It comes under exercise which the law freely allows you to do.

Which tax are you paying to stop the country being built on? And do people living outside the city not pay this tax?

How do you think woodland management, old buildings grants, hedgerow and wildlife grants etc etc are paid for? Quite rightly from the public purse. Of course people in the countryside pay taxes but as there are more tax payers in built up areas we pay more. So we 'own' it as much as the people who live there do and it's perfectly legal to visit it (though not of course to park on double yellows, drop litter etc). I think competition between town folk and country folk is fucking ridiculous for what it's worth, but a bit of empathetic feeling wouldn't go amiss. We are co-dependent after all.

YANBU, @AiryFairyMum but tI'll bet you most people on this thread will tell you that you are, as you don't own the countryside etc etc etc ad nauseam.

I just wish people who live in rural areas would count their damn blessings rather than rant at the people who, having been locked down in built-up areas for much of the year, just need to find some healing green space to walk in.

This isn't forever. Learn to share, ffs, when other people don't have your good fortune. And to those using the space, be responsible and park properly/don't leave litter.

I'm a rural dweller by the way. And I'm embarrassed by the attitudes displayed by similar here. And of you townies wanting to share 'my' woodland and open space are very welcome. I hope it helps.

Grin hope you never buy any non essentials?! Collect a takeaway? They’re open and legal but hardly essential! I could easily live off basics; rice, bread and oats etc. I don’t!
