My roomba came to a sad end last night. So I'm researching a new one. Mine was a basic model, which did the job just fine. I'm doing a bit of research and there seem to be loads on the market.
Tell me about yours. Would you recommend it?

We’ve got a eufy. It’s my favourite thing in the world. Search eufy on here and meet the other mega fans Grin

We have a Eufy 30C. He is brilliant. I couldn't be without him. There's a massive thread about robotic vacuum cleaners - let me find it.

VapeVamp12 · 18/01/2021 09:31

This post just reminded me i saw a missing poster for a robot vacuum the other day !

Any new Eufy Robovac parents out there? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3994205-Any-new-Eufy-Robovac-parents-out-there

Here you go - should cover off any question you may have 🤣🤣

ToffeePennie · 18/01/2021 09:33

I’m seriously considering one, my friend has a “whiskers” which she used to leave running all day and as she had a cottage it would do all the first floor for her.
The only thing that puts me off is the insane price tag. Are they worth it?

MammaMiaWallace · 18/01/2021 09:34

Eufy 30c - absolutely brilliant!

BanginChoons · 18/01/2021 09:35

Mine only died last night and I miss it already 😥

We have one to tackle all the dog hair (Roomba 960). I love it but I can see how they might not be for everyone:

  • you do need to keep the floors relatively clear of clutter to get the best result and avoid it getting stuck
  • they take much longer to vacuum than doing it manually, during which time they are making a noise which can get irritating
  • they have an awful habit of finding you and wherever you want to be next, then getting in the way
  • they take a fair bit of maintenance (cleaning out, replacing brushes etc) to keep them working at their best

I still would hate to be without one and really wish I'd spent a bit more £ and got a self-emptying version.

I have a roomba 971-got in the Black Friday sales with 40% off on Amazon-it’s amazing-even goes back and recharges itself to continue the job. It maps the rooms as it goes so seems to learn as well. Can set him off with the app when I’m not in. His name is Dave.

Artinsurance · 18/01/2021 09:44

I’ve got a Neato who gets confused in our hard floored/complicated shape livingroom/kitchen/diner and often misses areas (I say it’s because he’s a bit lazy - so I just set him off again). He’s also a bit rubbish at picking up cat hair tumbleweed from corners but overall it cuts down the time I have to spend with the vacuum cleaner out in our main living area.

He’s quite good on our carpeted floors in regular shaped rooms though.

Are other brands actually any better or does everyone rave about them because they do keep the worst at bay with very little effort?

AmazingBouncingFerret · 18/01/2021 09:49

I bought myself a bagotta. It was on sale on amazon. I have high gloss black tiles in my kitchen and he is an absolute godsend. Once he’s out of charge he takes himself back to his little charging dock.

We called him Kraken, so when we start him every morning we can say ‘release the kraken’

Chasingsquirrels · 18/01/2021 09:59

I've got a Eufy 30C max.
My understanding is that most of the Eufy's are at the cheaper end of the market.
The cleaning is random (you can choose random, edge, spot, quick - but the scheduled clean is a mix of the first 3 of these).
There is no mapping.
It doesn't return to base to recharge and then restart.
You have to manually empty the dustbin pretty much every time it runs. (I've seen pricier ones which empty into a docking station that you then empty say monthly).
The 30 range has boundary strips that you can put down to stop it going places.
The C range is Internet/app enabled.
The Max has a greater power than the non-max of the same model.

I'm very happy with my Eufy - but have no comparison point to better spec'd brands.

Do I need one that mops?

OP posts:
Champagneforeveryone · 18/01/2021 10:07

We have the Eufy 30C called "Dog" ("Alexa, release the dogs of war")
He's made a massive difference to our little cottage. We have dogs and a cat so hair was the big issue, Dog collects it before it gets to the tumbleweed clump stage.
As a PP says, he's fairly labour intensive to keep him in tiptop condition but this seems like a small price to pay Grin

Caspianberg · 18/01/2021 10:11

We have eufy 30c. Bought for a bargain £140 on Amazon in sale.
It’s great. It random hoovers like someone else said, but I just schedule it to come on at 7am, we go downstairs around 7.45am and it’s hoovered all downstairs for us and we just tell it to go home.
It’s quiet enough you can sleep through it if needed, but we are usually awake and just getting ready whilst it’s pootling around.

It’s good and means we tidy up all toys every evening

Aelfrid · 18/01/2021 10:12

We have a Eufy 30c max which was £200 ish in the summer Amazon prime event. For the price I think she's fab - yes, you have to empty the dust box manually (in our house, twice per run Blush) but even that's quite satisfying in a slightly disgusting way.

GhostPepperTears · 18/01/2021 10:12

We also have a mop (Braava Jet 240) - which is pretty cheap compared to the Roomba.

I think the term used above: "keeps the worst at bay" describes what they both do, very well.

The mop doesn't do a great job, leave streaks and is not as smart as the Roomba. But it does get rid of the worst muddy paw prints with minimal effort (on my part).

Aelfrid · 18/01/2021 10:14

I'm sure at some point we'll discover the half-price Eufys were just an evil internet plot to place spy cameras in every home in Britain that had so far resisted Alexa but - shrugs - dog hair. What can you do?

Caspianberg · 18/01/2021 10:16

And yes, I think if you want something that gets rid of every crumb in every corner, then no robot hoover does that.

But the eufy, for the price is great as gets rid of 95% daily stuff. For us that’s any bits in hallway bought in from outside, cat hair, random crumbs from baby flinging food off table, general dust.
It means I only use the manual Miele now on stairs, and to hoover skirting or hidden corners occasionally. Actually Under the bed and sofa have never been so clean

CallistoSol · 18/01/2021 10:16

Also got a Eufy, it's great. And while I empty the dust holder each time, it's hardly labour intensive compared to actually vacuuming the house. It's pretty quiet, very efficient and wasnt particularly expensive. 🙂

Chasingsquirrels · 18/01/2021 16:53

This made me laugh. Mine is scheduled for 2.30am every night, so it mostly goes round in the dark. I do upstairs once a week during the day. If it is video-recording the downstairs of my house in the dark I'm not sure it would be overly interesting viewing!
