I've been on it off and on for four years or so. Couldn't be without it. Never had side effects other than when I went up to a very high dose (250mg) and even then, they were manageable. Happily settled on 200mg now. I've come off them cold turkey a few times and it's never been that bad - a bit dizzy but that's it. But my psychiatrist has always gently persuaded me to go back on them and he's totally right.

If you accidentally don’t take them without enough water and end up with a lot of pain. Try eating an apple

@fairgame84 so happy they helped you 🥰 hope I get the same results......

@SunnySandy Thank you, I've tried lots of different meds at times and they are definitely the best (for me). I hope they help you.

My husband takes them, he was feeling so low before taking them. Irritable and just stressed and anxious. He had some side effects for a few weeks but now he's on an even keel. Fully functioning and the man I married much happier all round.
Keep going OP.

That's interesting - I've had awful, inexplicable heartburn a couple of times since being on Sertraline. Is that what you get?

OP, sertraline made me me again after a really horrible few months of all day long anxiety. The first two weeks were ROUGH and my anxiety skyrocketed but reading other people's reviews got me through. It will be worth it.

brunoc12 · 17/01/2021 22:35

I'm on day 10. My jaw/teeth are aching really bad today but hoping that side effect will stop very soon and it will help in the long run!

Bobbiepin · 17/01/2021 22:41

I've been on them for almost 2 years I think, I really do recommend sticking with it, but also making some practical changes to your lifestyle rather than relying solely on the meds.

On bad days, having a shower is revolutionary. Even if its shower, change into clean pjs and get back into bed, it makes a difference. Exercise at home is good, anything outside is better. Supplements to your diet also, I take vitamins like B6 and B12 that manage my hormone fluctuations which make my depression worse.

I am a bit late to this I think, but hoping someone still reads this.

I've struggled with anxiety and sadness for so long, I nearly went on tablets 3ish years ago but after seeing the doctor who didnt talk to, me ask me questions and handed me a prescription without no description of what the effects would be, how the work etc I was too scared.

I started taking mine yesterday. This makes me feel so much happier, I see a therapist and always refer to 'the old me' or 'normal' me and to see someone else say this makes me feel reassured. It's affecting my relationship because I have been feeling so anxious and worried it's the relationship but when I have a high point I am very aware and conscious its the right person. But my head just goes into a mental spiral (as it did the first time and I wasnt with him then).

But I am just so looking forward to these (50mg) to kick in and I can start thinking clearly and stop the anxiety taking hold - and be happy and laugh again which just hasn't happened in what feels like forever.

Harribo86 · 25/05/2021 15:47

@Norah8

Yes.. I put off taking it for a v long time. The initial side effects were not fun but after a month or so I realised I was more the old me. I could genuinely laugh instead of pretending. I'm only on 50 and think maybe I'd be best to up to 100
this literally feels like me...I feel i'm going to ruin such a good relationship because of how I am. This is the main driver for me finally getting on the tablets to stop being so irrational.
Thecrazyone94 · 01/04/2022 09:43

I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but I've just started taking these (50mg).
I took my first one around 5pm yesterday and a few hours later felt very strange! I'm now scared to take my second, wondering if I should break it in half instead!
I'm taking these for severe anxiety. Panic attacks 4 times a day.
Would be great to hear some more positive stories

What do you mean by strange?

I'm not on these anymore but when I started them ten years ago I had nausea for the first few hours and insomnia/mania (particularly sensitive to caffeine) and loss of appetite for about a week. Tbh the first week was the fun part for me!

thegreenlight · 01/04/2022 10:52

It’s amazing - I’m literally the best version of myself. I plan on never coming off them after putting it off for a long while. My anxiety is controlled and I feel happy and calm. First week was difficult with head aches and tiredness though. Do it - you won’t regret it!

707smile · 01/04/2022 11:34

Did anyone experience stomach pain/nausea and weight gain? I've considered sertraline but can't stand stomach pain/nausea and I already have a BMI of 34 so cannot afford to put on any weight (and/or stall my weight loss).

VestaTilley · 01/04/2022 11:46

Me! I love it. It’s treated my PND (with therapy), and - as far as I’m aware - I’ve as yet had no ill effects. I’ve taken 50mg a day for a year, and am due to start slowly weaning off soon.

I highly recommend it. I just hope I can manage without it.

SailingNotSurfing · 01/04/2022 11:59

2 years in for me, and I've never felt more like the person I'm meant to be. No issue with weightgain either. I do agree with taking them with a big glass of water because they can cause heartburn if swallowed dry.

McT123 · 01/04/2022 12:23

I took Sertraline for about a year. I also went to CBT counselling. The Sertraline helped me to function so that I could do the counselling. The counselling helped me to examine my life and change what I needed to change (mainly an approach to life rather than anything physical) and the changes I made helped me to come off Sertraline.

Absolutely worked for me.
