DC witness statement

My DC (11) witnessed a collision between 2 vehicles. They saw everything, helped the injured driver and came and found me who called an ambulance etc. My DC was happy to be a witness and has completed the witness statement from police.

However, there is the option to say whether you want your name and address details to be released. My instinct is to say no. I've no idea if including name and address would potentially put DC in any danger or if it would make any differene to the case anyway in the offchance it did end up going to court.

Why would you want those details released? If there is an option not to, I would go for that.

SoupDragon · 17/01/2021 12:09

I think I would say that I didn't want them released. I wouldn't be at all concerned if it was me but, as it is a young child, I would prefer those details not to be released.

Minky37 · 17/01/2021 12:09

I would say no, it might be published in local newspapers etc. I can’t see why there would be any benefit to you in publishing this information.

Sparklesocks · 17/01/2021 12:14

I would pick no as they are a minor.

TurquoiseDragon · 17/01/2021 12:16

I'd pick no also, as they are a minor.

SlippersForFlippers · 17/01/2021 12:18

I'd say no based on the age.

Whatisthisfuckery · 17/01/2021 12:20

Your DC is 11, so I doubt very much their details would be released to anybody who didn’t need to know.

Ask the police to whom they mean by realeased, and whether it’s relevant to a child, then decide from there.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 17/01/2021 12:26

I would say no on the basis that you can probably change your mind later if necessary, but also agree with the last poster, ask the police

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 17/01/2021 12:26

ps Well done to your DC. You must be proud of them.

Ohdoleavemealone · 17/01/2021 12:39

Say no!

KatieGGGG · 17/01/2021 13:27

It wouldn’t be released to anyone that asked of course, but I wonder if you say yes it could be released to insurers and the like for any potential dispute/injury claim (as in, they’d be contacting him for their own statements too). I’d say no, they’ll have him on record if criminal court needs him, and saves him from being asked to provide further statements from endless companies.

harkthegeraldangels · 17/01/2021 13:50

Thanks all, I've said no.
