To be upset with DH for criticising my singing voice?

I got myself a new guitar song book - and I was 3 bars through when he unsolicited tells me my voice has no rhythm and the song I’d chosen was all about rhythm.

I’m deflated like a popped balloon. The song book is shoved back on the shelf to wait for (at best) when I’m home alone to practice.

I’m no Taylor Swift - but singing is so personal and emotional that it has really got to me as a comment coming from my DH.

When you hear someone singing it usually means they are happy so it takes a special kind of arsehole to spoil it.

I was just singing while I was cooking, playing some Roy Ayers. If anyone complained they'd have had their dinner fed to the dog.

Fuck him, play your guitar and sing your heart out.

It takes a special kind of asshole to inflict their terrible singing on others as well.

There’s literally nothing worse than listening to someone who can’t sing but thinks they can. It’s painful. Give me cat strangling screeching but having fun with it any day. If I was your husband I couldn’t not say anything either.

@june2007

So Winterwoolies what do you suggest? That she stops. I would talk to your partner he may not have meant to have offended you as much as you seem to be op.
Of course not June . I’d suggest she tells him that he hurt her, that he was nasty for no good reason and that she takes her book back down from the shelf and carries on. But I don’t think she should essentially ‘work with him’ and appease him when he’s been so very unkind.

Who pissed in your flask @cherrypie111?

@User7312019 - there are other rooms in the house he could have gone! I’m not particularly loud - and I was practicing guitar in the corner rather than car-a-oke singing in the car!
