Have you ever heard of this saying??

And what does it mean??

"Damn the fear of it"

My granny says my great grandmother (Scottish) used to say it.

I've tried googling it and only a rap song and one line in a book comes up.

I really want to know what it means.

Scottish here but, no, I've never heard it. Which part of Scotland, do you know?

There are lots of phrases and sayings I hear in the East coast that we don't use in the West.

rawlikesushi · 16/01/2021 16:14

Never heard it but would have assumed it meant something like 'don't be frightened of it'.

B33Fr33 · 16/01/2021 16:17

Surely it's literally just telling someone or yourself off for hesitating (feel the fear and do it anyway) maybe a bit of a "fuck it" but politer?

NiceandCalm · 16/01/2021 16:31

Never heard of it but understand the sentiment.
For some reason I'm saying it in an Irish accent.

@Lockdownshmockdown She was born in Dundee, lived in Lanark and Clydebank, then for a long time lived in Perthshire.

Yeah I was presuming it meant something like those sentiments. I'd really like to know more about it or if anyone else uses it, there's nothing on it anywhere.
