AIBU to want a scan? Poss miscarriage

I have been trying to get pregnant for a while, today I started bleeding (not expected given time of the month/previous period date etc).

Took a test which is positive. Concerned about the bleeding so spoke to 111 who said that I'll be seen by a GP later today but I'm not having a scan to assess viability of pregnancy.

AIBU to want a scan?

Very sorry to hear about all your struggles. Unfortunately it sounds like if your period was due that you will only be 4weeks pregnant, so conceived 2 weeks ago when you ovulated. There is no scan available that will pick up a pregnant this early either way.

The only thing you can do is serial pregnancy daily trine teats yourself to see if the line is getting fainter or darker. A GP at most could do a blood test to see if the hormone is going up, but sadly at this early stage there is nothing they can do, so if the GP just says to watch and wait, they aren’t being mean or unhelpful, there is just nothing science can do at the moment.

Too early to scan. In likelihood it's probably a chemical pregnancy. I'd keep testing and if the line gets darker it's a good sign. You could ask gp for a blood test but tbh they might be reluctant due to the early nature.

If you’re very early there’s nothing to see on a scan anyway and even if they see a heartbeat at 6 weeks plus, it’s not a guarantee of a viable pregnancy.

Sorry, it’s really shit but the best thing you can do if you’re very early on is wait and keep your fingers crossed. I Also wouldn’t go to a hospital unless absolutely necessary at the moment - if you are pregnant and things are going ok, I wouldn’t jeopardize things by picking up Covid.

It’s a hard wait - I’ve done it lots of times.

What colour is the bleeding? Is it light? There is such a thing as implantation bleeding 🤞🏻

bluepie · 16/01/2021 15:46

How many weeks are you? They can't see anything until 6-7 weeks. Spotting is very common, but an EPU will usually see you in normal times at least at 6+ weeks, not sure what a GP can do other than a HcG test I suppose. Fingers crossed for you op, I bled first trimester in both my pregnancies (healthy babies).

It's very hard at the moment. I'm pregnant again after 3 back to back MMC in the last 18 months, all picked up on reassurance scans at around 8 weeks, where they could see the baby hasn't progressed passed 5.5 weeks.

This time they aren't offering any reassurance scans so I'll have to wait until my 12 week scan, only to very likely be told the same thing.

It's a bit shit.

I don't even have the comfort of knowing at least it means I'm staying away from hospitals, as I work in the damn thing everyday 😩

Godimabitch · 16/01/2021 15:56

I'm so sorry, they wouldn't be able to see anything yet even if your pregnany is viable. It could be implantation bleeds, it could be an early miscarriage. Just try to stay calm, look after yourself and keep an open mind.

I had a miscarriage at 7 weeks, it really really hurt but there was nothing anyone could do. They didn't even see me, just let me wait to see if I stopped being pregnant. I did get pregnant again straight away though, this current pregnancys start date is the start date of my miscarriage.

Godimabitch · 16/01/2021 15:57

@justchecking1 that's awful of them, can you get a private one? I think mine was 45 quid

DaysAreGettingLongerNow · 16/01/2021 15:58

We saw a heartbeat just around six weeks and everyone was absolutely amazed. It’s just far too early to tell. I’m sorry, I know it’s rubbish, but there’s nothing to do but wait.

justchecking1 · 16/01/2021 16:07

@Godimabitch yes I think that's what I will end up doing

Brieminewine · 16/01/2021 16:13

They’ll be nothing to see on scan.
The GP will assess you and refer to gynae if appropriate but it’s likely they’ll take a wait and watch approach.

Minky37 · 16/01/2021 16:16

As everyone has said it’s far too early to see on a scan. It’s probably best to just see how things progress as difficult as that must seem to hear right now Flowers

CoolCovidCat · 16/01/2021 16:23

It's too early to see anything conclusive on a scan.
