Paying full adult price for hotel & flight for 2 year old?!

We have a holiday booked for this May but highly unlikely it will go forward! My son will be 23 months, and I specifically made sure to book before his 2nd bday so we don’t get charged. When trying to re-book our holiday for another time (my son will be 2 by then), it shows the full adult price for the hotel and flights. Is this right?! We have booked with tui. Surely it’s not fair to charge an adult price for a 2 year old, the room was still the room we initially booked! So no difference?! A 2 year old won’t even eat adult size portion meals?! I understand airlines charging but not the adult. Is this the normal?

The air fare should be discounted by the tax element as that does not apply to young children

Thank you all for your comments. My bad, I had my calculations wrong. Just done them now.

With tui;
For May 2x adults + 1 infant = £1,728
For May 2x adults + 1 child = £1,953
£225 difference

Booking hotel & flights separately;
For May 2x adults + 1 infant = £1,609.26
For May 2x adults + 1 child = £1778.85
£169.59 difference

Seems like I would’ve saved money if I’d have booked separately.. really hoping the holiday will be cancelled in May so we get a refund

Why on earth shouldn't we think of a holiday? Should we only think of the doom and gloom that is covid19? Is looking forward to a brighter future forbidden too?[/quote]
Agree completely. Seriously biting my tongue at the minute. I think some people are going to be in for a shock when things start to get going sooner than they think.

Thing to bear in mind booking flights and hotel separately is that your protection with ATOL is very different. Booking as a package can make things easier if there are problems with the airline going bust for example

I think your package price sounds fine, it’s only £225 more than if your DC was under 2 and your DC will get their own seat in the plane.
